To me, you sounded dismissive of somone worrying the autograph won't be real, yes. As if it's a minor issue that the publisher will resolve with a payback if it turns out to be fake.

I mean, I get your hoping t

They could be and great if they are. But there's a big difference between signing an autograph vs. hundreds of copies of a book. John Green has talked about how painful it was signing the entire first edition of The Fault in Our Stars, and he was a young person at the ti

It's terrible in the sense that if people want a genuine autograph, they are getting shafted. It isn't about whether a refund is issued--and I suspect the size of the audience who want a Liza autograph is a tad smaller than thos

The signed copy I preordered comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Is such a certificate worth anything? I have trouble believing that Liza, at her age, could sign all these books. It's a lot even for someone in better condition. And she always signs her autographs the same way (I got one back in the 80's): her name with a smiley face. So it would

Follies and 1972 Tony's Questions

I love that John Guare had invested in Follies. It suggests a stronger community spirit among the Broadway creators of that era than we see today.

Weirdest parenthetical ever, considering Bobby is no unaware innocent, and has been observing all his friends' marriages all along. It could even be argued that the marriages are better and more solid than depicted because we are only witnessing them through is very biased anit-committment

When will we get an Elvis bio musical for the stage??

He later performed a benefit concert in Honolulu to raise money (some $64,000) to help finance the building of the USS Arizona Memorial. He and his manager were not paid for the performance. He is a hero to many, especially to those with military backgrounds."

I'm sure you understand how someone who did these things could stil be a loser in

Why don’t they remount A Chorus Line at the Shubert?

It's taking an awfully long time this go-round for them to ban you again.

Still frozen in time from the original production 99% of the time, and constantly restaged to be as accurate as possible, it runs the risk of becoming not just a museum piece, but a human Audio-Animatronic display. If you've seen one really good Chorus Line, there is at least an argument to

The original is deservedly iconic. The trouble with the other two is that they seem to be referencing the famous lips--which are a visual from the film, not the stage show. I like the new logo better than either of these two, though I'm still not crazy about it.
"

The red lips predate the film, though it made them the most famous: the stylized black-and-white figure with the red lips dates back to the Roxy production (which sometimes used a color version as well), if not earlier. If anything on earth is synonymous with Rocky Horror, it's the red lips, and I don't consider it a movie-exclusive image.
"

Disembodied lips never appeared as a signifier before the film and then the logo for the midnight movie poster (the lips logo wasn't part of the first, standard screening ad campaign).

Has the Public Theater lost its relevance?
 Feb 19 2026, 02:41:35 PM

I'm not a New Yorker, so I'm trying to get ahold of the question. Is the argument about losing relevance based on quality: people just aren't enjoying as many of the shows? Or of a loss of more daring material? Or is it referencing the late Joe Papp's original aim to bring theater to the masses (i.e. a Public Theater), and how soaring ticket prices have made a mockery of that? I get one might answer "yes" to all of this--depending on one's opin

What irks me about all these productions is that I don't think they have anything to do with some great love for the book--a genuine classic, if unfortunately no longer appealing to a lot of readers--it's just the exploitation of an IP.
