Favourite scene transitions?

Scarlet Leigh said: "David10086 said: "For me, just about every scene transition involving Norma's mansion in the original run of SUNSET BOULEVARD was captivating. Watching the 'mansion' land onto the stage, or rise above it to reveal Artie's place was fascinating. A lot of time, thought, work and technology went into that - and it paid off. (Especially considering it was new technology 25 years ago.)"Oh man HOW could I forget about this set? Sunset was one of the earliest musicals I saw when ...

The Cher Show Audience Opinions.

THE FASHIONS. One of the best parts of the first act was the "fashion show" of her most iconic outfits. It was so cute seeing everyone in the audience point and say "I remember that one!".The Bang Bang number had me in c...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 12/23/18

Dec 28, 2018 — 3:24:38 AM

You're entirely skipping over the whole idea that it is also a stage version of Harry Potter, and the continuation of a series of seven books that sold more than 500 million copies, with a movie franchise that was estimated to be worth $35B, so itsginormous built-in audience is even more of a factor than what actually happens on the stage. What happens onstage is almost secondary to them going to see it happen..." brilliantly put

Frozen or Anastasia!?

Oct 30, 2018 — 3:22:36 AM

frozen.it is an infinitely better crafted, and staged show than the naysayers on here would have you believe. Musically it sounds phenonimal. Caissie and Patti bring whole new life to the characters you think you know. The sets and costumes, are beautiful. Its not a slavish recreation of a movie, its a entirely its own thing, and that is a proper broadway musical.

Whoopi really pushes 'HoH' on The View

Coincidence that they were two of (many, sadly) shows this season with disastrous ticket sales and therefore in desparate need of celebrity endorsement?

Diversity

Jun 14, 2018 — 3:33:38 AM

Sondheimite said: "I often cite Hamilton as being the poster child that represents the diversity problem that producers have caused in audiences:A show is written for people of color to take back history. The show is very good and is swooped up by white producers who set ticket prices so high that it prices out most working class people of color. The audience is then filled with white upper classliberals who pat themselves on the back for seeing a show on Broadway that "celebrates diversity" ...

Which Musical Numbers Helped

Inspite of the lack of nominations, and lack of love on these boards, Frozen was far and away the best live performance of the evening, queen Caissie ruled the night.

What is the Fate of SPONGEBOB?

Jun 11, 2018 — 1:15:00 AM

Brilliant as it is, and it is brilliant, every ticket you buy for Harry Potter you have to buy twice over in order to see both parts, and therefore the whole story, making it literally twice as expensive to the individual audience member, or 'family', therefore it is is therefore not simple straight choice between it and Frozen, which looking at the grosses, is doing just fine.

The Band's Visit is Winning ya'll

Jun 5, 2018 — 5:56:10 AM

Fun as it is, it would be a truly sad day for the Tonys if this lightest of entertainments frankly won anything. it is not a broadway worthy show. It has no cohesive narrative, no heart, and no soul. It is truly just an inconsequential spectacle, and while it is great that there is room for all forms of theatre in New York, this is simply not award worthy.

Tony Awards 2018 Winner Predictions Thread

HeyMrMusic said: "I’m crossing my fingers for Clint Ramos’s brilliant costume design for Once On This Island. I also love David Zinn’s design for SpongeBob. Both are so creative, using found objects to build fully realized, imaginative, larger-than-life characters. Tablecloth skirts, electrical wire headpieces, Coke can demon spikes, rubber glove mermaid tails, tap dancing tentacles... Those are the two designs I’m rooting for."literally for this reason alone neither of these should win. as t...

FROZEN Reviews

Mar 30, 2018 — 6:15:49 AM

I really loved this show, and i'm really bemused by all the anger and bile thats been thrown at it. Patti was a joy, and Caissie blew the roof off. I've not seen a more beautiful looking show, scenically, costume and lighting, for ages. The puppets were extraordinary. The ensemble singing bliss. It was both the film, and yet so much more than just the film, deeper, more nuanced, and more satisfying. It is a proper broadway musical. Its message is clear and strong, and in these troubled times,...
