Was just wondering who you would list as broadway royalty
Personally I wouldn’t consider someone like Aaron tveit or Ramin Karimloo. (And yes. I’m talking living ) and personally not do I consider Neil’s Patrick Harris or Hugh Jackman
I think of
Bernadette Peters
Patti Lupone
Angela Lansbury
Nathan Lane
Matthew Broderick
Joel Gray
Christine Ebersole
Audra McDonald
Barbara Streisand ( I know she only has two credits and hasn’t appeared in my lifetime)
Chita Rivera
Kristin Chenoweth
Idina Menzel
Carol Channing
Julie Andrews
In terms of writers.
Sonhiem
Webber
Menken
Rice
Schwartz
in 10-15 years. I could definitely see myself considering
aaron tveit
Sutton foster
jonathan groff
laura osnes
Lin Manuel Miranda

Laura Osnes isn't royalty but she is somewhere on the ladder. Broadway's princess?
Jessie Mueller is well on her way to being Broadway royalty. I don't know where I'd put Sutton Foster on the ladder but she is definitely up there. As of current Broadway stars, I think Ashley Park is well on her way to becoming Broadway royalty and will one day be one of the brightest performers of her generation.
Other than that, I wouldn't consider people like LMM, or Ben Platt Broadway royalty, more so Broadway fads.
In terms of guys, I think Norbert Leo But, Andrew Rannells, and Christian Borle are all respectable working men.

Butz is a living legend, and I love that someone who originated Fyiero is now playing Mr. Doolittle. Brilliant.

Second Laurie Metcalf at this point. I'd add Donna Murphy and Julie Andrews.
Also maybe Victoria Clark?

pretty sure Frank Langella would be pretty disappointed to not be on any of those lists.....

Oh, peeps. If you are claiming someone isn't royalty, you can't then give them the title of princess...which IS a royal position. (I mean, I know this is all in fun - but if you're going to play the game, PLAY the game.)

@Sorano916, I feel like most of the people you named aren't really Broadway royalty. They're more like Broadway nobility. They're Dukes, Duchesses, Lords, Ladies, Knights, Earls, Counts, Countesses, etc. But certainly not royals.
"Broadway Royalty" should be a title reserved for the most revered, and most accomplished. I love Norm Lewis as much as the next guy, but he's nowhere near the level of, say, Julie Andrews or Carol Channing.

I think also what makes you broadway royalty is a cross over appeal and major name recognition
Nathan Lane
Barbra Streisand
Bebe Neuwirth
Angela Lansbury
Etc
Some of these other people on that list are far from it

Betty Buckley should be high on that list.
James Earl Jones as well.
