i was there tonight. its a pretty chaotic/uneven play, elevated by the two leads that are more or less worth the price of admission.re the play itself: its told nonlinear, with jump cues that take us from one scene set in, say, the present, to boom, a moment seven years ago. costumes and sets never change, so the play keeps you on your toes trying to follow where we are and where we are going. this works well for a while, but at 1hr 40 mins no intermission, it gets tiring. the bigger problem ...

the marketing is atrocious- really no idea what this show is about, or who its for, aside from what ive read here. curious: is front balcony (dirt cheap) ok for this? its high up but the views are good there. alternative is rear orchestra

this is a fine production of what i guess we can call a classic, but i found it pleasant, never hilarious, and never farcical. a huge kudos to Bill Irwin for adapting this into something fairly modern, occasionally poignant, not at all creaky. hes incredibly lithe and bright for 76, and he won me over in the last few minutes. but he is overall miscast here: hes hard to understand, and he isnt known for his witty delivery or comic chops. the mind races thinking of the various directions this c...

i dont remember much about people complaining re Simard or Hilty (i didnt follow those threads, I guess) but i DO remember other controversies concerning other actors missing performances, and its very disingenuous to pretend anyone was complaining about the absent/ill/busy actor. the issue often was the actor's absence being known by the production, and them refusing to come clean about it to ticket buyers. Very exciting to see if two people who have proven their talents on screen can translate to stage. I am skeptical, tbh, esp re Tarantino's ability to tell a story without his genius use of camera visuals, but talk about a burst of talent arriving on stage. Awesome.

i thought this was a total misfire, though I agree Crystal Finn is giving yet another incredible performance. there a story ripe for the picking here, and i very much liked the structural set up of these two neighboring families developing in real time. but it takes quite a bit before we understand the political insanity we are dealing with, and then just as it gets good, the 2nd act is rife with soliloquies (which are discussed meta-style, and analyzed to the point of dropping the fourth wal...

i loved the play in 2011 and i love this cast (seriously, Harris, Dreyfuss and especially Janney are some of my absolute favorite actors) but i just cannot bring myself to spend $250 to sit in the back of that horrible mezzanine or balcony. Good for them, I guess.

i was there last night, and yes, this is a treat. it flies by, propelled by witty writing and a very strong ensemble doing great work. Bioh is doing some subtly heavy lifting here- the politics of the small world of a girls school set against the politics of regional colorism set against the politics of White-dominated internationalism. it really is an onion that gets peeled beautifully.i have never been all that blown away by what I have seen from Benton, but i agree she nails this sad monst...

If Guinan does anything close to what he did Off Bway, I think he will be in contention with Freeman for Best Supporting Actor. He was SO perfect playing a sympathetic monster. Did todays announcement specify who is playing which parts? I assume Sadoski is playing the Tim Hopper character and Colon-Zayas is playing Ivy, the cop. Who is playing the role Glenn Davis played, Gio?

they posted Simard's entrance as Mildred Layton and im sure she will be fine/good in this role but just that first line delivery makes you really appreciate Gasteyer's gift of the voice lilt and sourpuss face, like no other.

theres some audio online and Norbert seems to be as incredible as everyone thought he would be. With enormous mounds of salt since I can only hear not see her, Amber sounds incredible but seems to be taking some strange liberties with riffs/tone that dont make alot of sense without being in the room. Unclear how in hell Jasmin Brown got this job. But its early!

I still remember seeing Norbert as Roger on a return visit to RENT in 2001 or something, simply an incredible singer and performer. Very excited that hes back singing on stage and love the very notion of his voice with Amber Iman's. If anyone saw them tonight please share
