Interview about demise of Wonderland on Broadway

Jul 7, 2011 — 4:11:52 PM

Having seen well over 60 Broadway shows over a period of nearly 20 years, I can safely say (this time without bias) that I've seen far worse shows than WONDERLAND. "Honestly, to state that the simply terrible Wonderland died because of a cabal of evil critics is naive to the point of foolishness. And to pretend that running in the summer rather than any other time of year would have helped is just self-deception. There are herds of tourists here at every time of year, not just in summer." The...

Interview about demise of Wonderland on Broadway

Jul 7, 2011 — 8:41:02 AM

I'm going to speak as someone who is incredibly biased here, being the biggest fan this show will ever have. I think the article by Fleming was somewhat tweaked to make Lisi appear as a monster. I doubt she meant to be negative about Dacal and Ritchie's relationship, especially since (as it's been pointed out here) basically began in a recording studio way before rehearsals even started. At any rate, I think some of those Tampa Bay-area investors are to blame for the sudden closing of the sho...

WONDERLAND: The Lovers Only Thread!

Mar 30, 2011 — 10:11:52 AM

Re: Song from the Concept Recording that are no longer in the show: Don't forget the Mad Hatter's second act number, "Nick of Time". Add that to "Love Begins", "Don't Wanna Fall In Love", "Misunderstood", and the never-been-in-a-staged-version-of-the-show "Keep On Dancin'" and "I Give You the Queen of Hearts". And, of course, every other number has changed lyrics - with the exception of "One Knight", which has barely changed at all (except for the orchestration). If you listen to the pre-conc...

WONDERLAND: The Lovers Only Thread!

Mar 28, 2011 — 9:22:11 AM

Patash, no reason to be sorry! My experience online has led me to believe that it's easy to misinterpret/misunderstand things in an online setting. No worries. The concept of "Lovers Only" was meant to be funny. Obviously, there are people out there who don't share my love for this show, and that's fine by me - everyone is entitled to her or his own opinion, and I respect the rainbow of opinions that is this message board. I just wanted to root for the underdog and create a thread where those...

WONDERLAND: The Lovers Only Thread!

Mar 27, 2011 — 7:28:03 PM

Patash, I in no way intended to make this a thread that requires people to like WONDERLAND...I merely wanted to provide this board with an alternative way of thinking about the show. It seems a lot of folks are very anti-WONDERLAND and I wanted there to be a special place to share the love for the show. I'm all about different opinions - that's what makes the world go 'round, right? Anyway, I'm so happy there are so many people who love this show. On another note, it's great to see so many ne...

WONDERLAND: The Lovers Only Thread!

Mar 27, 2011 — 9:27:46 AM

Dear Lovers of Musical Theatre, I decided not to read all of the spiteful things about one of my new loves - namely, WONDERLAND - on this often fabulous message board. But I have decided to go ahead and create a Lovers Only Thread so that those of us who actually love and care for the show, its creators, its cast, and its crew can spread a little love. I had the pleasure of seeing the show in its primary stages at the Straz Center in Tampa, FL, in December 2009 after having been a fan of the ...

Elf Student Rush Tickets - how early should we get there?

Dec 20, 2010 — 9:03:03 PM

Well, the subject line says it all! I was hoping to see the show tomorrow and wanted to know what the student rush is like...is it crazy? Is it dead? Please help me out! Thanks so much, dedicated Broadway fans - and HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS to you all!!!

re: She-Ra: Princess of Power - The New Wave Musical Adventure

Oct 8, 2009 — 8:56:05 PM

We definitely have considered "I Have the Power" as well as the She-Ra theme music (from the opening sequence). It all depends, but we shall see soon enough. Glimmer and Swift Wind/Spirit will definitely be characters. Also expect Bow, Kowl, Madame Razz, Hordak, Catra, Shadow Weaver, Mantenna, and others. Evil-Lyn is a He-Man character, but she does bear a striking resembling to LuPone. Perhaps a guest appearance is in order.

She-Ra: Princess of Power - The New Wave Musical Adventure

Oct 8, 2009 — 7:55:49 PM

Dearest ladies and gentlemen of the theatre community: I just wanted to take a moment to let you all know that work has begun on a new musical based on the 1980s animated TV show SHE-RA: PRINCESS OF POWER...sounds crazy, no? Well, it's going to use new wave music from the '80s and promises to be all camp! The creators will be revealing some of the new wave songs in the show and a glimpse into the storyline very soon! [WARNING: Those born after 1989 may or may not have any clue who She-Ra or w...

re: Wicked at Bryant Park

Jul 27, 2009 — 10:53:55 AM

It's fun to see the cast perform, especially during the soundcheck. And the intense makeout sessions between Dee and Kevin this year were pretty fun. And the only standby was Laura Woyasz; neither Dee Roscioli not Kevin Kern are standbys/understudies. I personally think the Bryant Park concerts are fun and I get to see performances from a lot of shows I might not ordinarily want to see. If it weren't for Bryant Park, I probably wouldn't have seen AIDA, AVENUE Q, and several other shows that I...

re: Broadway in Bryant Park Week 3 review.

Jul 25, 2009 — 9:37:24 AM

Kevin isn't THAT old. You'll recall the first New York Fiyero was Norbert Leo Butz, and he certainly looked older. Fiyero doesn't necessarily need to look young...after all, he's a guy who's been kicked out of several schools. Perhaps he's a professional student, so he could be older when he starts at Shiz. And, for someone who's "old," Kevin is pretty damn sexy. (Incidentally, I saw the show the night of BROADWAY IN BRYANT PARK and Kevin was out...Jerad Bortz was on and he was pretty awesome.)

re: Broadway in Bryant Park 2009? Schedule is up

Jul 24, 2009 — 12:12:10 PM

I video recorded the entire shows (including soundchecks) from all three weeks thus far, and I plan to record next week. I'm considering putting them on YouTube but, given my computer's occasional flakiness, that may not become a reality.

n2n wasn't canceled; it was switched. WICKED was originally scheduled for August 6 and (I believe due to some n2n cast members' schedules) was switched with n2n. So, WICKED got July 23 and n2n got August 6. I'm interested to see who comes out to perform from n2n. I'm sure Alice won't be there...but it'll be fun to see understudies for sure!!!

I greatly enjoyed this week...definitely the best one so far! Next week should be OK...too bad n2n has been grouped with "blah" shows...

Laura Woyasz sang "Popular" in Bryant Park yesterday. She is the Glinda standby in New York.

For WICKED Fans...

Jul 9, 2009 — 10:56:48 PM

Now that I've gotten your attention...let me first admit that I hate to "spam" message boards/forums, but I feel BroadwayWorld is a perfect place to find fans of any show, including WICKED. I wanted to take a brief moment to plug UNLIMITED: The First WICKED Fan Society. It all started with a simple Yahoo! Group before the musical opened on Broadway in 2003...and now, as WICKED continues in its sixth year on Broadway (and, of course, in productions around the world), UNLIMITED is still going s...

re: Broadway in Bryant Park 2009? Schedule is up

Jul 9, 2009 — 10:40:34 PM

My friends and I got there at 9:00 a.m. and we were the first ones there. I love watching the soundchecks, which are always entertaining (especially this year's AVENUE Q soundcheck!). And, to be sure I get a good spot (right up front, as always) and avoid the teeny boppers (no offense to the good teeny boppers out there) and creepy old people who attend every single free performance in Manhattan (again, no offense to non-creepy old people), I always try to get there by 9:00 or so. Plus, it's ...

re: Broadway in Bryant Park 2009? Schedule is up

Jun 22, 2009 — 10:43:12 AM

Well, there are a handful of "older" next to normal fans (myself included), but a number of them are those little tweeny and teeny boppers (if you are indeed a tweeny or teeny bopper and are offended by these statements, I apologize). Some times these fangirls and fanboys are decent, but many times they are insane and ridiculous. Nevertheless, I am extremely excited and will be getting to Bryant Park by 8:30/9:00 a.m. for most of the shows. Some days, it'll be 8:00 a.m. for me! I'm crazy like...
