i don't know anything about zac efron being cast as link, but according to a news article, lucas grabeel got a callback for the part. he plays ryan evans in high school musical (the blonde brother who can actually sing and dance very well). http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060423/NEWS01/604230388 that's the link to the article. the hairspray info should be somewhere towards the end of it.
