Not sure how NYC would deal with it, but I can say in the Wash DC area most proprietors are taking the stand that they are willing to comply with 2-4 weeks in the spirit of public safety. Have to agree. I thought the same thing. I will be 50 this year and most of the worst offenders I have come across in theaters regarding their phone usage have been my age or older.

1. Porter would be a great fit for Audrey II2. Egerton seems a bit too hunky for Seymour in my humble opinion, but I guess they could dowdy him down to some extent.3. I completely sympathize with you and it annoys most sane people. My mother loved attending musical theater before her health starting making it an issue. One of the last shows we got to see was the touring production of The King and I at the Kennedy Center. Dance of the Vampires. The book was a glorious train wreck, but the cast performed at 110% and I was not bored for one second, which is not something I can say about some of the much more seriously revered productions that have trod the boards.Honorable mention to the most recent On the Town revival and Never Gonna Dance. Both were lovely reverential good old-fashioned musicals put forth in a world completely uninterested in old-fashioned musicals without a huge name attached to it.

Agree with Wayman_Wong on Never Gonna Dance. I think this was a really underrated and very entertaining show. Racey was very good, although Nancy Lemenager lacked Ginger's brassy rapport. The supporting cast was excellent though and the dance numbers outstanding. But it was hit repeatedly for being too old-fashioned. Sometimes, you just like something old-fashioned that does not hit you like 18 tons. This was a nice example of that.

As an actress I actually enjoyed her work back in the day, at least up through Network. But yes...she has been doing this for years. Well he sold out the Capitol One Arena in DC, which has a capacity of 20,356 seats, which is more than the Hollywood Bowl's 17,500. And I would anticipate he would be more popular in Hollywood in DC. I have to say the show was excellent. Better than I even anticipated.

Good to hear as they really needed to make some changes to the show from the DC run. Brightman, however, is not one of the changes needed. Leslie Kritzer and the actress playing Lydia also need to be kept in place. The show never seems to know what to do with the Adam and Barbara characters and both Butler and McClure seemed utterly wasted in excess baggage/nothing roles. I thought Fearless Vampire Killers was a train wreck. This show was also a train wreck...but a very entertaining train wreck. There were times you could laugh with it and times you could laugh at it. I saw it over the weekend. Not as good as the film, but it has promise if they work some kinks out of the book. The audience was a good eclectic mix of the old to kids with many in between and most seemed pretty into it. The music is decent if not exactly memorable. The whole cell phone thing is completely out of hand. Can anyone give some kind of detail about how Drew Gehling is in the show? I am not familiar with him and it would seem that this show would rise and fall on how good the actor playing Dave is. Also, does it stick fairly close to the film or does it depart substantially? What do they keep and what do they discard? My curiosity is piqued about this show, but not sure whether it is piqued enough to spend the money and trek to this theater.

Truthfully, I am A-OK with that ending. Even as a kid, I thought Higgins as portrayed by Rex Harrison in the film was an arrogant jerk who treated Eliza little better than a stick of furniture. I could still love the music and the story itself, but I never saw them as a romantic pairing. At the end, when Eliza starts telling him off, I thought finally she is going to put him in his place, but then after justifiably leaving him...she returns for some reason and his final line to her is about "...

Holy Cow! It looked a bit interesting on the advertisements, but a friend's wife gave him tickets to take an out of town visitor when it came through the Kennedy Center a few years ago. He absolutely hated it - said it was godawful and the visitor despised it as well. He never elaborated, but if it is close to the description you just gave, I can see why.

If memory serves, I do not recall any major obstructions in the Walter Kerr orchestra section. Steer clear of the balcony though. I sat there once for A Little Night Music. I am not a huge person, but the seat in front of me was slammed straight into my knees and the arm wrests were digging into my sides (plus they had the heat set at inferno at the time, which did not help matters). This seemed to be a problem for a number of other people up there as well.
