Dont know about all of the other shows, but TCP had a matinee show on tony day...it was mostly u/s but they had one.... and I thought for last year's show, the orchestra was put into a separate room and mic'd in... there were some complaints about not having these talented musicians be able to fully participate and be present in the festivities...but I could be wrong.

I agree with your points...what i disagree with are the comments that try to DEFINE why she is doing all of these things...nobody has access to the inside of what happens... you are absolutely right- media and hollywood is no therapy to anybody, but you as a person on this forum have clearly been able to express that, so you come across as someone who has everything they need to cope with disappointment, and rejection in healthy ways... this woman has a clear history of self destruction attem...

Please everybody! give the woman a break, she suffers from a long history of clinical depression...she may just be going thru another period where she feels that she is obsolete. ok I may be the only person excited about this(i doubt it though)...but the wonderful vocal powerhouse that portrays Shug Avery in The Color Purple, Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, cd will be released on 1/30/2007! At last. The soundtrack didn't do her justice! I think that is part of the problem....you think that stuff was added based on the movie(or taken away). I would like to point out that the Book is both the source for the movie and the musical. your review sounds like you think that the book is the source of the film and the film is the source of the musical- not so. Well i think you said it yourself... "There are some great performances, beautiful sets and lighting, nice choreography, and a couple of good songs"... Those ARE some of the things that comprise a good show for some people. No it wasn't flawless, but the only way to make it so would have been to have a TCP I and a TCP II. you know you're a color purple fan when: You see someone walking their dog and as you approach it you sing "get ready for the big dog!" You walk in on your friends gabbin about how slow you are, and how you will be late to your own funeral and you wait til you hear them say your name so you can interrupt with "this who they talkin bout....and every word they say is true too!" you find reasons to throw in lines like "you so pretty!....Men ain't pretty!..... Felicia Fields- she didn't leave a young child. if you look at the post tony awards pictures (of TCP afterparty) you'll see the "young child" she left behind. I think she was or is going to be a senior in high school...so not so dependant on mom's hands on guidance anymore.

I was not present, but my cousin was....during one of the performances at The Color Purple. when the cast finished singing the a capella version of the title song (at curtain) the audience kept singing for another 15 minutes- they had to come back and join back in because people were singing and crying and not leaving!
