Me too. I saw it and loved it. A few weeks later, it has closed.

Stae Fair: Original Cast Recording

Jan 12, 2008 — 11:07:16 AM

I always assumed that "Isn't It Kinda Fun" was sung by McArdle and Scott Wise. The song had such a great dance arrangement that it seemed a perfect fit for Scott's talents. I just discovered after 100 years of listening to the song that it's Ben Wright singing, not Scott Wise! ETA: Ok now I'm confused. It is Scott Wise singing "Isn't It Kinda Fun." But isn't it Ben Wright who is in love with McArdle?

re: Question for Follies and Dorothy Collins fans

Jan 12, 2008 — 9:41:07 AM

There is a a very touching anecdote about Dorothy Collins and Alexis Smith in Ted Chapin's book Everything Was Possible Both were invited to Houston in 1985 when a producer mounted a production of Follies to open a new theater. re: Patti LuPone GYPSY: 'At Last'

Jan 12, 2008 — 9:20:43 AM

I have seen Betty Buckley, Tyne Daly and Patti Lupone in Gypsy. Ethel Merman and Angela Lansbury I just know from their recordings. ETA: Yes. I did leave out Bette Midler. on purpose.

Betty, I think what you said is on the money. I shouldn't feel embarassed when I see an older performer not quite as forceful as when he was younger, but I am. Just a little bit. Much like my racism and sexism, ageism has been carefully and quitely taught in our society.

re: Shows You Didn't Like at first...but you liked later on.

Apples and oranges, but here 'tis... Nine. I bought the LP when I was 22 and 17 years later saw the Banderas production. I went in thinking that I'd be bored silly when Chita wasn't on stage. Wrong! Nine was a show that I listened to once and with the exception of "Unusual Way," did not listen to it again. Now I really like the whole musical.
