re: Theater etiquette gone forever?
 Jan 2 2010, 07:19:34 PM
When I saw the vibrator play last week at least four cellphones went off during the performance and a person directly in front of me got up, left the theater to answer her phone when it rang, and came back in. I was simply flabbergasted.

And at Finian's Rainbow a few nights before that the folks next to me and in front of me kept chatting and rustling things around- enough that an usher came and waved his/her flashlight at them- thank goodness!

And I'm pretty sure at least one

A question of a slightly different note:
How is the standing room view/spot itself? Ie: is whatever is in front of you a nice/comfortable height (particularly for someone short-ish... 5'3"... ? haha).

I'll be there 1/7. I'm really excited- I love both Mary Louise and Hedda so I hope Roundabout doesn't mess it up :P

you're welcome newyorkcurious I think it's pretty close to impossible to get every joke in [tos]... haha

and beautiful picture TotallyEffed!!

I think I'm slipping into a bit of post-[tos] depression... I'll feel better when they update the blog or something... maybe... haha
<3 Though I did have a nice e-mail chat with the UK [tos]ser I adopted for Saturday night's show ^^

verynewyorkcurious- Susan says "don't worry, of course you were meant to have children" ... it's an into the woods reference which is way all the theater knerds were cracking up... because yes it's funny, and because they want to prove they understand the reference haha ....no accusation to anyone there, we all do it a little bit I think

I'm so sad I couldn't have been there tonight, but I did make it down for Saturday night and was called first for the lotto - it was so wonderful, but I won't bug ya'll about that because you know. But anyway, when I talked to them/asked them after they each mentioned that this wouldn't be the end for [tos] - I can't wait to see what's next!

so jealous of everyone who did get to go tonight though... but I suppose I shouldn't complain, I was lucky enough to be there only July 5th, and 3

ok, I think our plan is going to be to lotto and then get tickets from the box office if we lose... here's hoping they are like 90-95% sold out, but not more than that haha

oh dear, I can't believe it's the last week of [tos] ;_; I'm so sad I've been far far away (ok, just upstate, but still) and insanely busy at school and therefore not able to participate in all the wonderful things like flyering (and I missed the 900 people's word thing too )

but anyway, I have next Saturday off from rehearsal (I would have a four day weekend if it weren't for the show I'm in--which funnily enough premiered off-broadway at the vineyard this past april! <3[tos]) and was thinking of bussing home to the city overnight to see [tos] one last time and then coming back up to Ithaca Sunday morning... BUT I can't spend a lot on the tickets because the bus is pretty expensive... anyone think the lottery will be too impossibly ridiculous that night? (This is the 11th, so not closing night) or if it might be possible to get tickets at tkts? or if my friend and I tried the lotto and lost we could at least still get nosebleeds (haha) as a last resort?

thanks all <3

And can I rant for just a second and say how irritated I am with people hating on [tos] without ever seeing it? For example, here is what a friend of mine told me - "To be honest I am iffy about seeing title of show because (and this isn't because i read it on BWW though I do agree with it) of the whole "look at us aren't we clever." - and he has never seen the show! If I can get him to see the show - I'll convert him to a being a tosser!

-- opinions about things they have never seen before? It happens.... hahaha

---------------------------------------------------

biggest CHENO fan- there are plenty of people who haven't being following [tos] and became converted to [tossers] when they saw the show, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think people's like or dislike of the show is based on that.

----------------------------------------------------

lastly, if you're going to 'make' me "Warmth-o-meter" these guys, I've got to give my kudos to Susan and Heidi for remembering me and being super friendly with me (I saw the show for the 3rd time last night and I chatted with both of them for a bit and they were super smiley, thanking me for working on bringing my 9 people, as I had another friend with me) where as for the guys it's more vague recognition- though they are still super nice. Also, when the cast saw my best friend and fellow tosser at Borders without me (I had work-boo) Susan apparently asked- Where's Nathalie? which cracked me up and put a smile on my face. But no matter, I have such a great amount of love, admiration, and respect for the whole crew! I'm just afraid I'm going to go into [tos] withdrawl when I go back to school in 2 weeks :o

re: Who the hell is going to this 'Cirque' thing?
 Aug 4 2008, 05:14:54 PM
Is it just tourists suckered into thinking it's a Cirque du Soleil show, or what? - YES. haha.
re: Cirque de Soleil's New Touring Production, KOOZA
 Jul 25 2008, 03:36:31 PM
I have to say Corteo may be my favorite cirque that I've seen. Maybe just because I'm obsessed with the chandelier act. I also loved La Nouba and Quidam as well, but I saw that one ages ago so I don't remember it that well. (I was also pretty young when I saw it but remember being totally amazed, awed, and a bit frightened, haha)

Wintuk was ok, but because of the theater they weren't able to do any areal acts- the theater has too low of a ceiling. Also, it is a little "dumbed down" or so to speak to appeal to kids (some cirque shows can be kind of scary...) but I think it was pretty cute/charming, just not the cirque I'm used too.

and cirque dreams (didn't realize that wasn't cirque du soliel... that explains a lot, haha) had some really fabulous and impressive acts but the song interludes made me twitch... and not in a good way... those were pretty awful and irritating.

p.s. I consider myself a big cirque aficionado... I do some circus/areal performing myself and am a little obsessed haha

Weez - I had the opposite- I came out of Sunday humming into the woods! haha. Love both shows a lot but there are definitely some very common melodies. There was one in particular that struck me- I'll have to post if I can recall it.

Heidi is a knock-out no question about it, but Susan looks beyond fabulous too, and her dress is just absolutely AMAZING!!!
I'm loving the photos and just itching to go to the show again :o

I almost lottoed today because I was in the area but I had kind of a lot of stuff with me (had just gotten off a bus at port authority) and none of my local tosser friends were free so I somehow managed to restrain... but boy was it hard. haha

haha... when I saw this thread I went "it's about time..." ;P
not that there's anything wrong with Phantom (well, I mean, I'm not a fan... but I don't want to start anything, haha) ... there's just something wrong with it running for... what is it now, 20 years? o_o

splendoris - thanks. This summer I'm taking classes at the new york circus arts academy... and have been doing various circusy things since I was 8... over the summer/at camps mostly, though now that I'm too old for camp I do it in the city and such and such... I love it, but am sad it will be inhibiting my title of showness tomorrow night...

so I'll be there [in spirit] too

re: [tos] rush?
 Jul 17 2008, 12:44:24 AM
I'm afraid it will start getting more crowded after opening I did it and lost this past Saturday but we were able to get like $37(?)ish balcony seats... not ideal obviously but better than nothing! :o (and there was definitely still room left in the balcony, and a 2-3 people who managed to get at the very front of the line RIGHT after the lotto ended were able to get $50 orchestra seats I think... lucky though)

aw don't give up hope... you'll see it someday... [believe] !

and I WISH WISH I could go tomorrow. But A) I can't really afford another full-ish price ticket right now, and B) I have circus class tomorrow from 7:15-9:15. I love the class but it's at the same time as [tos] opening night *tear*
