There are signs on the doors of the Music Box directing ticket-buyers and patrons next door to the Imperial.

Exteriorly, the Imperial is much nicer than the Music Box. The sign at the Music Box looks likes a 50s themed diner.

I think that the Music Box has one of the prettiest facades of any Broadway House (it also has one of my favorite interiors -- probably because of the downstairs lounge). Though I do like the roof shaped marquee on the Imperial. And besides, the Imperial has so little street frontage on 45th Street.

Wouldn't it be interesting if there were actually two productions of the same show running at the same time, with different casts...not that it makes any sense economically...(just get a bigger theater)? You could see August I for the matinee and revisit August II later the same day.

That's neat!

re: August's Two Marquees!

is Dennis Letts on the new marquee too? or Michael Mcguire?
that's a really big mic...

That has happened in the past. There were two productions of SHOW BOAT on the boards in NYC during the original run.

More recently, a touring production of a show then playing on Broadway set up shop at the City Center while the original production played a few blocks south.

re: August's Two Marquees!

re: August's Two Marquees!

That's beautiful.
Some people paint, some people sew, I meddle.

re: August's Two Marquees!

I saw that when I went to see it for the first time on Wednesday and I was pretty confused...

The Wei$$lers brought their tour of Grease in for one week during Thanksgiving years ago, while the revival was still playing.

There was also much talk of the possibility of Broadway having two companies of The Lion King playing concurrently after it first opened, and was sold out for months. Obviously, that never happened.

"The sign at the Music Box looks likes a 50s themed diner."

I agree. I love the inside of the house, but that sign is ugly.

Where did the touring company play in NYC? Also, why did this happen??

"Where did the touring company play in NYC?"

They played City Center in 1996.

"Also, why did this happen?? "

Because its the Wei$$lers?

re: August's Two Marquees!

was the sign at the Music Box kind of... deconstructed like that for Farnsworth? or... does it just actually look that crappy?
that's a really big mic...

re: August's Two Marquees!

I really wanted to see this play but the Broadway preview video on here makes the show seem so utterly boring.

re: August's Two Marquees!

Rentboy, there is nothing utterly boring about this show. The 3.5 hours literally fly by. The show is brilliant, with some really wonderful performances. You'd be a fool not to see it based on a video preview.

re: August's Two Marquees!

I'm assuming this has got to be a first for two Broadway theaters, having the same marquees up right next to each other. Yes?
I killed the boss, you don't think they're gonna fire me over a thing like that!!!!

re: August's Two Marquees!

Yeah the video is a pretty bad representation of the show.

re: August's Two Marquees!

Two marquees of the same show next to each other yes. I do think that is the first time. But, keep in mind it is not the first time the same show has been on the boards at more then one theatre at the same time. They mentioned the Grease tour on Broadway (the revival) and the tour at city center.

And, there was Show Boat at two different Broadway theatres at the same time.

Why they did that I don't know.

Because they could fill two theatres...unlike LuPone's GYPSY with all those empty seats re: August's Two Marquees!
