Does anyone know why the character of Mrs. Muller was changed to Mrs. Miller for the film adaptation of DOUBT?
At first I thought it just might be different pronunciations, but the spelling is different too.
huh, I definetly didn't noticed that. I have no idea why they would do that.
For that matter, Meryl Streep is now playing Sister "Al-ooo-WISH-us" instead of Sister Aloysius ("Al-LOY-si-us").
Must make the names more user-friendly for the masses, I guess. But they didn't pronounce it that way in the play.
Aloysius is usually pronounced Al-oh-WISH-us, though. at least, that's how I've pronounced it.
best12bars, Sister Aloysius was pronounced "Al-oh-WISH-us" in the play as well. Cherry Jones has also pronounced it that way every time she has ever spoken about the role in the press.
Mrs. Muller is spelled and pronounced differently in the film.

Why does it matter? It's not a change of epic proportions.
Fosse76, nowhere did I say it was anything near an "epic" change. It just seems like something very trivial to alter, which is why I asked.
I am curious about this, as well.
I would just think it would be because Muller sounds a lot like Miller and would have people saying "Is it Miller or Muller?" Now, they just say Miller and it's obvious.
