Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Cirque du Soleil and the estate of late singer-songwriter Michael Jackson are teaming up to create new shows that will give Jackson fans a theatrical concert experience like never before, the partners announced on April 20.

The exact production details were not revealed, but the first of these projects will be an arena-touring show "in which fans will experience the excitement of a Michael Jackson concert," expected to debut in late fall 2011.

A version of that show will have a permanent home in Las Vegas, where a handful of Cirque shows (Ka, Zumanity, etc.) are currently meeting with great success. The Las Vegas run is in conjunction with longtime Cirque du Soleil partner MGM Mirage.

The Las Vegas show is expected to open in late 2012. MGM Mirage will announce the location and plans for the permanent theatrical venue at a later date.

I will be in Vegas in June and plan to see 'O' and Ka, would these shows be good to see for a Vegas début?

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Ugh. Cirque has really been jumping the shark lately. Chriss Angel, Banana Shpeel, Elvis, and now, the Michael Jackson tribute craze? At least they have Ovo, which looks very intriguing.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

I took my mum to see 'O' when we did Vegas 3 years ago. It is one truly spectacular show BUT boy is it a complete bore. Once you are accustomed to the auditorium which in itself is jaw dropping and then the first 20 mins of the show then that is it for the next 2hrs or more.

I think I've seen most, but not all of the troupes shows in the last 15 years or more but they really should concentrate on the shows they bring to the UK. A growing number of people are getting a bit weary of the fare london gets now.
They have just kept bringing back the same 3 or 4 shows every year now for 10 years or more.
As we all know they have at least 15 different shows and the rest of the world sees all of these. London, no, we just get Alegria, Saltambanco and two others now too boring to recall.
The Elvis show in Vegas I hear is out of this world and I would see that one. The Beatles one, um help! no!
'Zoomanity' is the other one I know loads of people who have seen and go crazy for it- it's their only X rated show so far.
I'd go see Donny and Marie before any of the above.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Cirque isn't my cup of tea but I would go and see it if I ever go to Vegas, although my priority would be visiting the casinos and going to the Grand Canyon.

I've seen the musicals that are in Vegas and the only one that would truly interest me would be Phantom.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

The cirque shows in Vegas are hideously over priced too- be warned.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

I guess it depends on the kind of shows one likes. I've been to Vegas many times and have never been even slightly tempted to see any of the Cirque shows. Just not my cup of tea and I know I'd be bored to tears by that kind of thing. But obviously millions love them. But there is so much to see and do in Vegas for FREE, I don't see the point in spending ridiculous amounts of money seeing a Cirque show.

See, I've heard precisely the opposite. That Elvis is a bomb and Zumanity was a bore (though it's just R-rated for occasional nudity). I saw Love and it holds a close second as the best show in Vegas next to Le Reve. I'm not particularly a Beatles fan (like the songs, but not their voices), but I found the show thrilling. It's very different from the other Cirque shows, more focused on dance than circus acts. The new song arrangements are stunning and I listen to the CD often. I haven't met anyone who has seen it who didn't rave about it.

Everyone gushes over O, which was definitely cutting edge when it opened, but when I saw it a couple of years ago, I was fighting to stay awake. I had seen Le Reve the night before, which takes the idea of O and pushes it further, creating a visually stunning masterpiece that seamlessly moves from one jaw-dropping scene to the next and never loses its momentum. It is the single most spectacular show I've ever witnessed.

I also saw Mystere when it first opened and really enjoyed it. It may be one of the older shows, but it is impressive. While I've seen many Cirque shows, some of the tent shows are their best. Quidam and Corteo are two of my all-time favorites.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

The latest touring show TOTEM opens in Montreal this week. This looks good not disimilar to OVO and VAREKAI. I hear that KOOZA and CORTEO are good too. Some of the touring shows really need to be given a rest. DRALION which closed earlier in the year had been on the road for 10 years, and it showed.

You can't help but wonder if they are spreading themselves too thinly. 7 Vegas shows, 3 (I think) in Macau and so many tours maybe we are getting a bit tired of their brand of circus. Really there are only about 8 variations of act, and they are just repackaging and recostuming them and trotting them out again.

I saw KA nearly 2 months ago and it was amazing! But I heard Zumanity was a bore as well.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

I thought 'O' was just awe-inspiring to look at. Only problem I had was with so much going on stage, it makes you wonder where you should be looking. But don't miss out on it, visually, it's incredible.

I wouldn't recommend 'Zumanity'. It's basically burlesque and sex and I'm sure you could get something like that for cheaper on the strip. As I was watching, I thought to myself "Is this really a 'Cirque' show?" We only saw this because 'Ka' had no Sunday performances.

I wanted to see 'Love', but my friend wasn't fussed. Grrr.
Everything in life...is only for now.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Because Vegas is a totally different vibe and demographic from any other part of the country. The whole city is about visual spectacle and the shows are there to entertain folks while they are gambling and partying.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

I'd think it may have something to do with the shows being very visual and that you don't need to speak English to know what is going on.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

On the grounds of visual spectacle and I am not disagreeing with you. That is why Phantom - The Las Vegas Spectacular at the Venetian is seeming to be holding its own and The Lion King at Mandalay Bay has the potential to do very well. Are we saying the appeal is to do with Visual enchantment over substance?

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Absolutly the language thing, and they became something that you just do in vegas.

They are not doing as well as they once were. Most the cirque shows have discounts now for almost all shows, O you used to have to book well in advance.

Word of mouth for Chris Angel is awful and Elvis got off to a very shakey start.

Cirque is beyond saturation in Vegas and has to compete with the knock offs like La Reve. Its probably time to replace some of the older shows.

"Visual enchantment over substance" - yeah, that just about sums up Phantom Of The Opera to me LOL.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

I have been checking a wbesite that does discounts in Vegas, their TKTS I suppose.

http://www.tix4tonight.com/shows/index.php

Ka , Mystere and Zumanity are always on this board with about 30% off, surprised to see Ka up there given the expense of the production. I have never see 'O' up there, gives some credence to what Jaqs says, that 'O' must be one of the most popular shows in Vegas, understandable judging by the video, this is one I want to see.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

O is at the discount booth almost all the time. The only one that isnt on as often is love(I dont know about elvis, it wasnt open my last trip).
That list is just a subset.

It used to be O would be sold out in advance, not now, makes sense as the show has been around a good while.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Cool, I never have seen 'O' listed on the website, but saying that website are not always accurate, going with your advice I will not book until I am out there.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

I watched this documentary about Las Vegas with Alan Yentob and it was fascinating to see how Vegas has adapted and reinvented itself over the years, they mentioned that they are trying to target normal holidaygoers rather than gamblers which may have been influenced by the recession which hit Vegas hard and a lot of projects were halted due to lack of funds.

For those who have been to Vegas, what are the best and worst hotels.
#24

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

When the Cris Angel show opened last year it got the worst reviews. I have a relative who works for a casino chain associated with where it is playing, they get 100's of comps to get rid of each week and nobody wants them. The show is contracted for a couple of more years.

Vegas To Get 8th Cirque Thriller,

Phantom theres another discount booth called tix4less http://www.vegastix4less.com/ they have less outlets but carry some different shows too.

On strip the best hotels are the new mandarin oriental, Wynn/Encore, Bellagio and maybe Pallazzo, parts of Ceasers(some towers are better than others), TheHotel and Four Seasons both at mandalay bay.

Worst on strip, Imperial Palace and Flamingo (though both are fine on a budget, great locations), circus circus (not really on strip anymore but markets itself as such, its a hell hole regardless, avoid avoid), Excalibur isnt great. Sahara (bad location, 70s travelodge style rooms).

A lot of the just off strip places dont have great reps, any number of the motels, hooters(though friends have been fine there for the money).

Downtown Nugget is best Las Vegas club is one of the worst.

Most of the bad hotels arnt that bad by any other cities standard, I've stayed at the much derrided Plaza downtown and at £9 a night I wouldnt complain, bigger than any room I've had in london, clean, hot water. But i've also stayed at some great places like the Wynn and been made to feel like a superstar(and its still only been $100 a night).
