AN AMERICAN IN PARIS,, the new stage incarnation of the classic Gershwin film, arrives at Broadway's Palace Theatre, officially opening tonight! Previews began March 13 on Broadway, following a Paris world premiere earlier this season
The new musical, inspired by the Oscar-winning film of the same name, features a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and a book by Craig Lucas.
The cast is led by Robert Fairchild as Jerry Mulligan, Leanne Cope as Lise Dassin, Veanne Cox as Madame Baurel, Jill Paice as Milo Davenport, Brandon Uranowitz as Adam Hochberg and Max von Essen as Henri Baurel, under the astute direction (and choreography) of Christopher Wheeldon, making his Broadway debut.
Post 'em here, kids!

I think the reviews might be all over the place for this one.
Fingers crossed that this gets great reviews!
Agreed, for sure.
PJ, have you already seen it? If so, I must have missed your critique back in the preview thread.

I am thinking if Robert Fairchild gets positive reviews...he may be nominated in the Best Actor Musical spot eliminating Rob McClure from Honeymoon.
A triple-threat revelation in NYC Ballet principal Robert Fairchild, who proves himself more than capable of following in the suave footsteps of Gene Kelly.
The true star here, however, is the long-legged Fairchild, whose dreamily elegant form as a dancer — his jetés and pirouettes seem as natural to him as walking — is matched by charisma, understated masculinity and matinee-idol looks.

Mostly positive, similar to Hollywood reporter's review, fairly short and more summary than review as AM tends to be
New York Times lists it as a critics' pick even though there is not review up yet... is that normal?

Please keep in mind that a new rule was made this year where if there is a tie in the nomination process of any of the acting categories, the number of slots will be expanding from 5 to 6 or even 7.

I'm afraid these reviews do not bode well for Gigi, either in terms of longevity or noms.

why does this have anything to do with GIGI? isn't american in paris a new musical? if this thing gets raves this might give FUN HOME and SOMETHINGS ROTTEN a run for its money.

I think it was in reference to the fact that both musicals are based on classic movies set in Paris.

Both those films were also directed by Vincent Minnelli.
I'm so happy to see these glowing reviews for such a beautiful show. Congrats to the cast and crew!
