I've been hearing many rumors that Kate Winslet is taking over after Marin Mazzie leaves. Anyone else hear the same??? If it's true....I'm damn excited. I think she'd be fantastic acting wise. Singing? Mmm...not too sure. But still super excited if this is true.
LOL.
YES, Kate Winslet's Broadway debut will be the second replacement in a show that's been running over a year now. Riiight. They couldn't even get her to open Night Music as Desiree.
I'm just curious, do you have a source? I'd like to see her give the role a shot, but I'm not sure about her singing. I don't know if Diana is the type of role that you can stunt cast.
Someone just mentioned this to me tonight...sounds unlikely but can she please come to Broadway soon?

OnTheBroadway posted the announcement on twitter...they only have 40 or so followers so I do not think they are that reliable.
I've heard this as well that an unnamed source from the theater told someone. I'd fly up there in a heart beat!
Why in the world would Kate Winslet want to be a replacement? She just saw Catherine Zeta-Jones win a Tony for a role she was offered. I'd imagine she wants what comes with originating a role.

Look her song up on youtube. It is called, "what if"
You guys decide.
Kate singing "What If"
Thanks for the link. I had no idea she had ever taken a stab at singing. She sounds good on this song, but whether or not she could handle Diana for 8 shows a week, it's hard to tell. Very limited engagement, perhaps?
On a related note, are Marin and Jason in for a while or are they limited engagement?
She has a pretty voice, but Diana is a heavy belter at times, and I don't see how she would be able to do it. Her voice is very Airy (sp?) And I Still don't like the idea of Marin being Diana. I don't know.
While this seems unlikely, Jekyll & HYDE didn't start celeb casting until it's 3rd year. TV star Jack Wagner, then Rock star Sebestian Bach, then International superstar David Hasselhoff...
in an incredibly demanding male role, both acting & singing as well. So again, it has happened before that huge star replaced in the show (the Hoff), and closed it. So perhaps if they sign her to a few months and tell her she'll close the show she'd do it? Closing a "long-running" show ain't so bad!

Jack Wagner, Sebastian Bach, and David Hasselhoff are hardly the level of celebrity that Kate Winslet is. Also, Jekyll and Hyde was at BEST a "guilty pleasure" show that loaned itself to that sort of casting. And we all know what an unmitigated disaster Hasselhoff was in the role (and preserved for all posterity on that DVD).
Winslet is an A-list actress. Wagner, Bach, and Hasselhoff are D-listers.
Not the same thing AT ALL.
She's my long time celebrity crush, just saying.
Where did this rumor even come from? Seems pretty random to just come out of no where...

To everyman his own, but I wouldn't have called The Hoff a D-lister back in 2000. The show never "loaned itself to that sort of casting" either. Jack Wagner auditioned for the part, and people like Bach & the Hoff were called to audition. Robert Cuciolli was nominated for a Tony Award, and won the Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle Awards for that role, so I'd hardly call it a role typical to stunt casting.
Although I 100% agree the Hoff was a mess, he is just as big of a name as Winslet, even if for negative attention.
Celeb casting is celeb casting... whether it is a "at best guilty pleasure show" (I'll just leave it go since it isn't important) or a Pulitzer-prize winning piece... both shows have/had a huge fanbase, and both aren't easy scores to sing.

As ridiculous as this sounds, I would absolutely love for this to be true, and would figure out some way to get to see this.
I 100% agree that it sounds very far fetched! I think it would be rather awesome though.
Is it so difficult to link to the tweet in question?

What I'm sensing from this is that by Kate Winslet, we actually mean Kathy Griffin.
I mean, let's face it, that show could benefit from having a little lighter tone sometimes...
That made me laugh out loud
True or not, the mere thought of this makes my life happier.
