I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, Kate Winslet is very picky with her projects and the role sounds beefy and dramatic enough for her to want to do it. Also if she is gonna try doing a musical, doesn't it seem to make a little more sense "sliding" in as a replacement as opposed to opening it and possibly going down in flames with reviewers?
Don't think this is gonna happen, but then again I didn't think Bernie Peters would take over from CZJ in " A Little Night Music", so hey, guess I'll just have to wait and see!
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Add me to the "never ever ever" crowd. (I will totally bend over if it happens and someone bumps this topic up in a few months though ala MEMPHIS).
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
First step is that N2N needs to survive the cast changes and the fall attendance slumps. I don't think it's a BAD idea for Kate to test the waters with a work that's already a success, but quite a few OTHER things need to fall in place before the next round of replacements come in.
I cant' believe someone just compared David Hasselhoff's level of celebrity to Kate Winslet. That man is a joke and has been a joke basically since KNIGHT RIDER. Kate Winslet is one of the great actresses of her generation, she's an Oscar winner, has been nominated a number of times and is one of the most respected figures in the film industry today. Not to mention the fact that she was the star of the biggest movie of all times before AVATAR. At no point in his career did Hasselhoff have a quarter of the respect, stardom, and talent that Winslet has. I'm with Ljay, I can't believe people are buying this.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I wonder if maybe wires got crossed somewhere and Winslet's actually in talks for a film version? But, as it went through the rumor mill to the tweet we've all seen, the story changed.
I love Kate Winslet, she is one of the best actresses currently working. I would love to see her tackle a Broadway show, maybe another role like Desiree where it requires more speaking in tune kind of singing.
She has a good voice but she is a smoker, hopefully she has realized that it will ruin what could be a good thing for her career.
Though it will never happen, the theatrical role Winslet really needs to play is Dot/Marie in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE.
The idea of her and someone like Ewan McGregor in that show is an absolutely thrilling one.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I could see a film version with similar aesthetics as FINDING NEVERLAND. (According to the stage DVD commentary a film version was in the works, but Lapine turned it down - so it isn't completely inconceivable that a film version could exist (maybe in 2010 though)).

Well if it really was just a rumor, we know who started it. PGenre. He claimed at the time that Winslet, Lansbury, and Esparza all signed contracts. Obviously we know that was completely untrue. But I still wouldn't be surprised if the producers at least thought about Winslet in the role. Nicole Kidman was apparently approached, and I don't think that was a made up internet rumor.
Don't believe the rumor is true, don't believe her voice is right (or strong enough) for "Next to Normal", would love to see her in a legit film musical, though. Whoever mentioned her as Dot - her in a movie of that would be VERY inspired casting.
Great idea. But no way she could handle the score and do the acting as well. Absolutely no chance. Can she even hit some of those notes? I see them lowering the score like they did with Toni Braxton.
This is maybe the most far fetched thing ever and I don't really buy it, but even so, the thought of it makes me giddy. She'd be brilliant acting wise... but who knows vocally.
somethingwicked - A Winslet/McGregor SITPWG gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Kate Winslet isn't even with her husband anymore, AFAIK.

Kate Winslet and her husband were both spotted at Next to Normal recently, or so I've heard. Hmm..
Yes, there's no way a celebrity can just go see a show for the sake of seeing a show! Anytime a celebrity sees a show, he/she must be interested in the role!
