Hi all! Planning on (hopefully) getting a standing room ticket to the Book of Mormon this weekend. If I am successful, this will be my first Broadway musical!
Got a few questions and I hope those who have been through the process or are familiar with standing room can help me.
I plan on going to the Saturday (Nov. 5) 8 p.m. showing. I called the telecharge number to ask when I should arrive, and the woman on the phone said 6 p.m. should suffice, since the tickets aren't sold until 7 p.m. Now, having done a bit of research on this board, I know she's absofreakinglutely wrong! So my question is, if I get there around 1:30 p.m., will that be OK for the 8 p.m. show? Or should I get there even earlier? There is the 2 p.m. matinee show, and I wonder if those who don't get tickets to that continue to stay in line for the 8 p.m. showing. What is my best bet? Have any of you had to camp out, or do you just show up in the morning?
Also, is there any sort of railing or wall one could lean on while standing during the show? I assume there has to be something. Or do they just expect you to stand up straight for the full show?
I can't answer the first half (I've done BOM SRO for a Tuesday show... which is only one evening show. Showed up first in line at 10:30. Others followed shortly after.), but there is a railing to lean on during the show.
I did standing room two weeks ago for a Saturday night show and the earliest anyone got there was 3. I would have been more than safe getting there at 4:30. Good luck!
I know this weekend was different because of the snow but for saturday night my dad got in line right before they were calling lotto at 6:00 and was 5th. We got great center seats. I imagine as it gets colder it will scare people away from getting there early, but that probably wont be the case for this weekend. Sorry this doesn't help, just random input.
Wow, I'm shocked by this info. When I did SRO in the summer (yes, I know it's different) I was in line by 8am and there were at least 10 people in front of me. There were DOZENS of people behind me -- all willing to wait all day for the evening show tix. Wow, how things change!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I went to see BOM and got SRO tickets this summer. I was at the theatre by 6 a.m. for the 2 p.m. show. I was third in line by that point. I am not sure how things have changed but the line was down to almost the corner of the block by the time tickets went on sale. Most of those people just moved up and waited to buy tickets for the evening show. So basically I would advise being there early and just making a day of it. I made friends with the people in front of me and we would hold each others spots while we went to use the restroom or get food for each other. BOM SRO Line will be an exhausting experience, but one that is worth it!!
First, I want to say a huge thank you to those who posted tips/advice on this thread. Based on what everyone said, I decided to scrap the evening SRO line and got there early in the morning on Saturday.
I got in line on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. (which Michael previously said he did) and there were already 4 people in front of me! People generally started to fill in around 7:30-9 a.m. The weather was freezing in the morning, so dress warmly.
They called the lotto around noon, and tix for SRO were sold at 1 p.m. I was front and center SRO, and my god, what an amazing experience. I didn't even miss not having a seat! It's just like being at a concert, and I think I actually slightly preferred not having a seat because my friend and I danced the whole time. What a fantastic musical this was.
So SRO hasn't really slowed down any? I did it back in July for a matinee and I got there around 6:30AM. I'm going down to the city on the third and fourth of December with my boyfriend, was thinking of doing SRO so he could see the show, but I really don't want to make a day of doing it again. It's a great, fun show, but I would most definitely just have to wait in line for a few hours this time. Shucks. :P
I'm in the SRO line right now (for Tuesday 7 pm show). Got here at 11, first in line. Next two people showed up around 11:30. It's now 1:30 and there are about eight of us in line. If anyone's holding spots for others, that could take all 22 tickets.
