I'm going to be in the Times Square area for a few hours before catching a train - not staying at a hotel, but I know some concierge will hang onto a suitcase for a small fee, usually $5 or so. Does anyone know of one in particular to recommend?

Sheraton New York would do this, at least as of late 2009

Places will do that when you haven't been a guest? I did not know that. Hell, I'd never even have entertained that idea.

If hotels have a problem with that, I know of a place on 36th street that does that for their business. It's called Schwartz Travel. They are at 355 36th street, on the 2nd floor. There is an elevator that will take you there. I think it was about $25 for the day when I dropped off 2 smaller bags and a large suitcase.

It looks like they have a location on 46th street too now.

Most hotels will do this for anyone.

dramamama611 - I have had my bags held when I have had late flight leaving NYC after checkout. They never have asked for "proof" that I was a guest at the hotel. I assume they figure people asking to have their bags held where guests.

The St. James Hotel between 6th and 7th Ave on (i think) 46th st (or is it 45th or 47th?) has a luggage locker room towards the back of their lobby - there is a vending machine that sells tickets ($5 for one of the sizes; don't know about the other size), and you can come/go as you wish (don't have to ask anyone to take the bag).

Thanks for the advice, all. I ended up leaving my bag at the Hotel Edison, which was very convenient - and only charged 50 cents!

I've often done it as well....but seem to remember being asked for my room number.

Flying in from LA, I normally arrive about 4 and head right into mid-town.

I have checked bags at multiple Time Square area hotels that I wasn't staying at. It generally helps to have $5 bill out before you walk up to bellhop. (and of course give a couple bucks when you pick them up too)

Note, at the Marriott Marquis bell desk it is posted that it has a FIRM pickup time of 11 PM, or your luggage is staying until the morning. Most shows start about 8:15 and end about 10:30, so it's not an issue, but I have never used the MM after that, just in case I'm invited to party with the cast after the show. (j/k)

Randomly off topic: I'm going to finally see Follies tomorrow. :)
