War Paint Future?

Hi 

 

I was thinking of booking War Paint, due to travel from Europe in November. However, I see seats aren't really selling, over 3/4's of the house free most nights between now and then. 

Will War Paint close early?

I have three free time slots to see shows, I want to have booked in advance. Thanks :)

I wouldn't book it.  I would leave one slot open for a last minute tkts show and catch War Paint that way.

I agree. But, if you do book it, and it closes, which seems likely, then you should get a refund.

Thanks for reply, I have three days in New York so won't really have time to be queuing at tkts. 

I have Dolly booked. 

My list is, 

1st, Torch Song it closes the week before I arrive so I hope it extends

2nd, War Paint

3rd, M. Butterfly

4th, Great Comet.

I know this isn't necessarily helpful to your question, but given your time and travel constraints, I'd honestly consider just booking other shows. War Paint is near the bottom of the barrel of good Broadway right now, in my opinion. Lots of other exciting things to catch!

I'm obsessed with this show and Christine and Patti. I just want to plan properly and looking at the bookings a show with those kind of bookings in London in the height of summer would be announcing closing.

I really hope we get a pro-shot of War Paint. I was watching this playbill video of the cast album recording with clips from the actual show, and it's just so stunning. Maybe BroadwayHD could pick it up?

Seriously Gizmo.. If War Paint happens to still be playing you could probably walk unto tkts 30 minutes before the show and get a half price ticket and then just walk a few blocks to the theater.  No time wasted. Or at least wait till October to get the tickets.  However.. if you really want to book in advance then I really wouldn't take a chance on War Paint still being open.  I guess you can always just get the refund. But what a pain.  Of those choices you mentioned not one of them really requires far in advance booking.  Maybe M Butterfly and Torch Song.  The only big "Must get in advance" shows are Dolly, Hamilton, and Hansen.

I highly doubt that BroadwayHD will pay to record War Paint. It didn't pay for recording the Roundabout productions.

Oh it is not horrible at all.  I actually liked a lot of it.  Especially Patti.  But the show itself is  mediocre.  There are a lot of other things I would prefer getting preserved over this.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but it was one of my least favorite shows of the season. LuPone and Ebersole are wonderful and the score is pretty good ("Pink" being the main highlight), but the book is often messy, some scenes interminable. I ultimately left not really caring about any of the evening's proceedings.

I truly advise looking into other shows such as The Great Comet and Groundhog Day. Come From Away, The Play That Goes Wrong, and of course, Dolly! were also wonderful.

While that's true, the talent and opulence on stage is worth preserving. For me at least. And gurl please - Groundhog Day was an absolutely mediocre show. It had a dispensable book, below average score, and took a perfect movie and made it into a meaningless stage show. The costumes were predictable, and staging was full of ideas taken from other shows which did it first and did it much better. Never mind, I didn't come here to bash another show but looks like that's what I ended up doing.

The behind the scenes of the cast recording has reminded me of how much I enjoyed this. I must get back to see this again.

Maybe because I went in with zero expectations i actually enjoyed it. I also won the lottery-and as I have pretty horrible luck with the lotteries I was thrilled!

I thought the acting was great and story really interesting. But I do think you could hold off and keep an open slot-it would probably be up on TKTS if still open. And def give the lottery a try.

I'm with you, SarahNYC2-- I went in with low expectations and because a friend works on the show, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing to rave about, but I do urge people to give it a chance if they have on open slot on their theater schedules. And not for nothing, I liked it a helluva lot more than Groundhog Day.

I'm a huge Patti fan so I really wanted to like it but on first showing was entertained and enjoyed it.  I got the music and became obsessed with the songs.  Back on Top and Now You Know is my two favorite songs.  I saw it a second time, with closer seats and was just floored.  It was such a joy to behold and these having these two amazing women on the same stage...well, words can't describe it.  If you can, I highly recommend seeing it.  I'm hoping to go back a third time.
