Late to this party, but I get what she's saying. Although, frankly, we would have no idea who she is without her "token" casting in DEH. Honestly, I'm just happy for diversity in any sense. Don't care if it's token, it still counts.
Also, I've never understood people who say that they have to suspend their disbelief over something like Joshua Henry in Carousel. First of all, the character's race is never mentioned, so I don't understand why it's so ridiculous that a black man can play a role that doesn't specifically say that he's black. Also, there are literally people, standing onstage, 40 feet away from you, standing in front of cardboard, in glittery costumes, singing about their feeling and a black person is what makes the whole evening feel unbelievable?
The Mean Girls musical cast an Asian actor as the Jewish character portrayed by a white actor in the movie. No one seemed to bat an eye. It just doesn't matter.
