Some people were germophobes before covid. Maybe a few more will be after. Everyone gets to decide how they want to engage the outside world.
I will say that there is not much to be gained from paying attention to people on this subject right now. We are in the middle of a pandemic. Our collective mental health is shot. Some people think this will never end, just like some think the economy will never recover. But once the fact of recovery is staring most people in the face, they will take off their masks, they will stop hording gold, and they will get enthusiastic about the explosion of art and commerce that will define the next decade. Pipe dream? No. History. Science. Math.
Everything you need to know you learned in . . . high school.

We will see. We still might have a civil war after the election to contend with. Way too many unknowns ahead of us. And I am not sure I believe in the whole history repeating itself argument. But it is a very valid one.

a couple of quick points:
1. Note that I did not say when most everyone will have come out of the other end of this. It could be post-revolution as well as post-covid.
2. Re history repeating itself, not to put too fine a point on it, but that's not really what I was intending. I think it has more to do with the scientific history than anything else. We have lots of science regarding pandemics, and none of it suggests a permanent burden on civilization. We have had many highly communicable viruses before covid-19 and I suspect none of those who are never planning to take their masks off were wearing masks to protect themselves against Sars, mers, h1n1, etc etc etc (not to mention the common flu). Yes there are fringe individuals who have but that's ok. I am willing to wait until covid has gotten bored with us before believing all of these folks are going to persist. (But as I said before, I am not urging anyone to do anything.)

I find your words comforting in that at least they make sense and they give a outcome . A possible path. Right now we are in the middle of this and we are all just hanging on to speculation.

As I have also said in the past, we are really being impatient (which is our nature). It's been six months.
