Some may remember Lindsey Ferrentino's play from a few years ago, which was at Roundabout's Off-Broadway space. She will be directing the feature film adaptation. I love that we are seeing such an influx of film adaptations of plays, and not just from Broadway!
I saw this play twice Off-Broadway. I saw it a 2nd time because it was an unusual situation where the standby for Amy was a man, and they changed the script accordingly every time he went on, and I was curious to see how the play's dynamic changed.
I thought the play was kind of middling in quality. Very uneven, with cheesy dialogue, kind of over-the-top acting. But it had a ton of heart, and the emotional arc was executed really well. It made me cry both times I saw it. Given that it's effectively a road trip play, I think it will translate well to film.
