This was an interesting article in The NY Times for those of you who can access it.

I read this article, and while it is noticeable, West End tickets are still significantly cheaper than Broadway. On average, I was paying £50 - £80 per show. Probably the most expensive tickets for me were Cabaret (£120) and Guys & Dolls (£114). I did notice that the most expensive tickets in London are the Long-Running shows like Les Miz, Lion King, Wicked, Hamilton, and even Moulin Rouge. I guess it just depends on what the show is and who is starring in it.

The CABARET seats I bought in the West End for £120 are $699 on Broadway...

There are so many ways to get cheap tickets and most shows in london are not selling out anywhere near like New York City because the economics are more forgiving. I agree with the balanced perspective of the article that it’s a little click baity. It’s true that in a very rare case where there is a star driven show and you want a prime centre orchestra seat, you can’t always get this for a rush price. But that doesn’t mean west end tickets are unaffordable or too expensive as a whole.

We are going to London in December and I was SHOCKED by how inexpensive tickets are when I bought all the shows we’ll see. Like, it’s insanely cheaper than NYC.

It is indeed. I can only see 8-10 shows per year on Broadway but compared to seeing 19 shows in London in 6 weeks. WAYYYY cheaper! I’m glad though that West End theatre is becoming more and more popular each year. They really know how to do theatre over there!

This past week I bought:
Sunset Boulevard - 5th row stall - 75 pounds
Crazy for You, 4th row stall - 30 pounds
Private Lives - 2nd row stall - 15 pounds (todaytix must be having a deal or it is too close to stage)
Wicked - front row stall - 30 pounds (rush through website)
Old Friends - will do rush but will be easy to get at 30 pounds
