There's a review of the "Spelling Bee" CD on Playbill that states that Jay Reiss, who plays the vice principal, wrote most of the "definitions" himself, although he has no writing credit, and doesn't share in the best book tony. Does this shock anyone else? The definitions to the words supply the biggest laughs of the evening, and I doubt the show would have won the best book tony without them.
Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.
There are a lot of people who collaborated on the book, but only Rachel Sheinkin (sp?) has the book credit, as has been widely reported and discussed. Many of the actors who have been with the production since the beginning have contributed to the book.
