I read that the original original Millie was replaced out-of-town by Sutton Foster. Who was the original and why was she replaced?

there was a real old video of millie on bway.com and it has def. undergone many chnages from the millie we saw on bway.
So weird! I was just thinking about this. They interviewed Michael Mayer on Downstage Center (XM Radio), and he was discussing the original Millie, but wouldn't give names.
Why did Tonya Pinkins not go to Broadway with the show? The website doesn't say.
