Hands down, the worst thing I've ever seen on Broadway. This just should NOT have been made into a musical. I realize it was only the 2nd preview, but still...daaaaaaaamn!! From the moment they first appeared on stage, James Snyder & Elizabeth Stanley seemed nervous beyond belief. James kinda got better, but Elizabeth was consistently nervous the whole night, her singing wasn't anything special. And poor Harriet Harris...she started her last song in the wrong key, then messed up some words, and the last note was not good.

My favorite part was Spencer Liff. He was yummy to look at. The dancing was great, the best part of the show, but otherwise I hated it.

I suck at writing these things...ask questions, I'll answer them!

Oooh, and Carly Jibson was out AGAIN!

That's a shame that you didn't like it.

Two more strikes for me... meaning if Yankeefan & Wanna Be A Foster pan it this week..I WILL NOT SEE IT! Too many posters here (not the newbies who just signed in to shill the show) panning the show- that's a recipe for DISASTER!

I have to commute 8 hours just to see a show and it may not be worth it for me... It will REALLY save me time & money.. re: my thoughts on Cry-Baby (March 17, 2008)

Ryan- Thanks for an awesome review!

I haven't seen the show, but I did see the movie over the summer. I'm a huge John Waters fan, lived in Baltimore for a couple years, loved the city and the wackiness and utterly LOATHED the original Cry-Baby movie. John Waters mentions in some of the DVD extras that he really wasn't sure what to do with this film, as he had studios throwing money at him, and I feel like he played things WAY too safe with it. There's none of the anarchy or joy in this film that his others (yes, even Serial Mom) seem to have - it's all too professional and by the books.

It makes sense that this one WOULD be adapted for stage, but it's not my favourite source in the JW catalog...Pecker or Female Trouble would be far more fun.

musicalmaster...I had heard the demo CD before seeing the show, and actually liked the songs, and thought I would love the show.

That was not the case.

or maybe it is just a bad musical? re: my thoughts on Cry-Baby (March 17, 2008)

though I am glad you like it, mm703..at least some people like it! its just it may not be worth it for me to commute 8 hours and just get a headache. I was told by a lot of my friends here whove seen the show (thru pms) that it was a TORTURE! and I am really worried about it...its not the $$.. its the time.. re: my thoughts on Cry-Baby (March 17, 2008)

Its really got nothing to do with if you like 50s music

Not all 50s music was great, and the score for this is weak

Hmm, I'll have to wait and see it for myself... because I would see it but if a lot of people say they hate it I probably won't either.

I like 50's music...

though I hated the demo...I thought most of the songs are just awful, though most of my friends who saw the show love the demo and hated the show...mind boggling! they told me the show was just BAD! re: my thoughts on Cry-Baby (March 17, 2008)

I highly doubt that the music is the only thing that is making people dislike this production. For those who have seen it, how does it compare to my all-time favorite flop, Dracula?!?!

I'm so glad you share my opinion, RyToast (about the show and the male ensemble).

I see this train wreck again next Monday and I'm looking forward to seeing what changes they have made.

If its all about the male ensemble... I'll just save my $54.00 dollars and spend it at seanXdotcom and most likely I'll have a better time!re: my thoughts on Cry-Baby (March 17, 2008) and save time too...

(I am just trying to be funny, okay?)
