Great audio clip from Mamma Mia. Summer Night City is my favorite ABBA song so its nice to hear what it would have sounded like in the musical.

Huh.
* Edit: I'm dumb. Not as dumb as the person who said this song was "cutted," thankfully.

Personally I think the the little scenes before and after Honey-Honey, and right before Money-Money-Money work better at introducing characters and easing the audience into the story instead cramming it all into a 7 min opening.

"Summer Night City" was actually the original title of the musical before they began workshopping it. Once they actually began the workshop stage, the title was already MAMMA MIA!
At a few early preview performances of MAMMA MIA! back in 1999, the show originally opened with this "Summer Night City" bit after Sophie's "I Have a Dream". This was quickly discarded as they felt it started the show on a high energy pace then quickly kept going back and forth too much and introduced characters too early on, etc, which confused audiences with too much information being thrown at them. They chose to have the show immediately start with how the show is today and completely removed "Summer Night City".
This version of "Summer Night City" was never included in the film-version, therefore don't expect to see it on any Special Edition DVD, etc. It was never part of the actual show therefore it doesn't belong in any version of the musical MAMMA MIA! This audio was made from one of those early preview performances of the musical before the song/number was quickly removed. This 'live' audio recording is NOT from the film-version.

Posted: 6/29/08 at 11:22pmI saw one of the first preview performances in London and while I liked it, could see it was one of the ABBA songs they just jammed into the musical. I then saw Mamma Mia on Broadway about 2 months after it opened and I was prepared to here it, but was somewhat happily suprised it was gone.
