'Anyway, bless the theater gods for letting this film be completed while the old girl still had so much life in her!
Uhhh that would be one Alec Baldwin the so called "homophobic" ogre who people here love to hate. I'm sure he won't even get respect that this.
"Alec saw the Indiegogo campaign for the film and contacted me," Karasawa told Playbill.com. "He basically said, 'What do you need? How can I help?' I let him know of our funding gap, and he offered to make an investment and become an executive producer. Having his affiliation with the film on this level is like having a wonderful ambassador – it opens doors. Elaine and I were delighted. It's [like] having a knight in shining armor arrive at the eleventh hour.

Why, oh WHY does she always talk about The Golden Girls? Have you ever heard any performer bark so much about a role they lost out on? Put it to bed, Stritch. And for what it's worth, story goes that the pilot would have never been greenlit, let alone picked up, had Bea Arthur not signed on.

The documentary just opened here in Chicago-- has anyone else gotten to see it out there in BWW?
What an amazing document of a life! It shows the one-of-a-kind performer at her vintage best and shows an 87 year old lady at her frailest, still trying to overcome her paralyzing insecurities. For once a documentary like this doesn't leave you wanting more-- it's actually pretty long and thorough and when it's over you're ready to head home completely sated. Performances at the Carlyle and Town Hall are the peaks here, but there is also magical color footage from Sail Away and a TV staging of a Call Me Madam number that I'd never seen till now. It's also a feast of Sondheim-mania, although the man himself comes off less than his best in those clips from the Pennebacker documentary on the cast recording of Company. A shame they couldn't get a soundbite or two from the 80-something Sondheim himself as ballast for the snarky 40-year-old chain smoker seen there.
Anyway, bless the theater gods for letting this film be completed while the old girl still had so much life in her! It's ultimately an incredibly sad and beautiful record of how precious and short the time we get on the main stage actually is.
