Ckeaton, did you know that Dave Eggers's non-profit organization runs a pirate store?

I know the creator of Waiter Rant parlayed his blog into a book deal.

Gah.
Great. I was all set to comment on the bigot brigade coming in here with his drivel but he was actually supporting my position.
Does that make me a bigot?

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, bwaysinger.
washintonienne, aka jennifer cutler, parlayed her blog about being buttf*cked for cash in the halls of power into a book deal.
wonkette, aka ana marie cox, parlayed her blog into a book deal and more.
stephanie klein turned greektragedy into a book and publishing deal.
there's others who have had their blogs get them book deals and even tv development deals.
oh my god, not only did Namo just tell me I'm right twice a day at least but Papa just supported my blog-means-money theory.
Hold on. I think I just heard the sound of the earth stop moving.

That's who I was comparing to a broken clock.
Gotcha, Namo.
Papa, I know one of them. I never though to ask him if his original book was published before or after his blog but now I also see his blog has led to another deal. Good for him, I say.
Cutler photgraphed me once for The Daily Orange (Syracuse's student newspaper)... During the photoshoot I was lying on the floor in a pile of towels while she stood above me (in short shorts) with one leg on the desk to my left and another on the one to the right. As I lay there on the floor, I thought... "This girl is destined to get buttf*cked for cash."

I only use my blog to have someplace to stick my reviews since, especially when I review nonmusicals or off-Broadway stuff, they fall down the main board unread at lightning speed. I just recently started writing again after a two month sabbatical (too many work commitments, too little time and sheer exhaustion were to blame). I do get comments here and there, though since I don't post daily or even weekly or bore people with trivial random thoughts about my personal life, I'm not sure why anyone would bother visiting my blog anyway.
But what about your fans? I want to know what you think about John Lloyd Young-gate.
Those blog book deals were all from last summer, when blog mania was at its highest. Book publishers are notorious for two things: jumping onto bandwagons and developing buyers' remorse.
Click onto Amazon to see how few of them have come out or are scheduled. Ask yourself how many you would actually want to read. Very few of them have been hitting the bestseller lists, and it only takes one or two of those "significant deals" to lose money before the trend ends. (Quo vadis "chick lit"?)
After the trend ends, only the strong survive: the really good writers or the nonwriters with extensive "platforms" from which they can develop readers.
