10 Cloverfield Lane

Rotten Tomatos LOVES it! I might have to see this. I despised Cloverfield however.

I loved it. I completely agree with hork's point on its similarities to a theatrical thriller.

I will say the marketing ruined the twist for me. I get this an entry into into a Cloverfield anthology of sorts (Cloverfield had monsters, this had aliens), but I guessed the ending before I even saw the film. I knew there had to be an invasion. Why else would the Cloverfield name be attached? If it was its own film, I would have never guessed the ending.

What type of camera work is used for this? The hand-held "shaky-cam" stuff triggers motion sickness in me so I avoid those types of movies whenever I can.

No this is a proper film none of that found footage , shaky cam crap! Nothing like the original cloverfield, this is one tense at times truly scary film. With a brilliant performance from Goodman.

I saw this today and thought it was ****ing amazing. BOTH John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead gave phenomenal performances. The plot was great and so interesting, and I was happy that I walked in blind. There were a few unanswered questions, and the ending was a little too much but overall it was a very good film. It was as if Misery had a baby with Alien in 2016. Excellent job.

It's so enjoyable, and part of its fun is its unblinking mash-up of genres, blending quite a bit of Spielberg (don't let anyone tell you which film, a big spoiler, the visuals startlingly spot on -- a little Hitchcock ("Psycho" and even a whiff of "North by Northwest" -- and a dollop of Shyamalan. There are reversals within reversals and even if you guess the big reveal, you probably won't figure out the small surprises tucked in the middle. The three actors are all quite wonderful, and Goodman so resists the caricature trappings of the archetype, particularly in a couple of early sequences that give him breathing room for genuine character exploration. At the end, you will reflect on what was real and what was conjured in the storytelling, and the performance is part of the guesswork.

Using the Cloverfield name in this film is a bit generous.

That said, Abrams and the production team always maintained this was more of a "blood cousin" to Cloverfield and not a direct sequel.

They would like to create a series of films that share the same universe, much like Marvel has done with their films and DC is attempting to start with the upcoming Batman v Superman film.
