Anyone else watching this tonight? (9/8c)
It discusses the different theories for how the world will end and what the apocalypse and post-apocalyptic world may look like.
They had a preview on Nightline last night, and it freaked me out, but not enough to stop me from watching the program. I think the topic is morbidly fascinating.
it does look very interesting, I'll probably watch. I've always been fascinated by apocalypse theories.

Just what we all need. More things to fear. Terrorists under the bed. Black Holes heading for earth. "20/20" has been a mess since Hugh Downs left.
Hey, at least eh black holes and terrorists aren't as bad as the child Internet predators that Dateline's profiling every week.
Now THERE'S something to be afraid of.
What's the point of the fear-mongering? Those things always freak me out in the end, and there's nothing to it OTHER than to boost ratings.
I still remember way back in the early-mid 90s seeing one of these shows and they spent all this time showing how Nostradomus and other prophesies have come true and the next thing they predict is the end of the world. I specifically remember them showing this diagram of one of the pyramids in Egypt that had a hallway in it with markings on it that specifically pointed out different events in time like along a scale (one inch was a year or something like that). Anyway, according to the scale, the world was supposed to have ended in May of 2000. I was totally freaked out by that (of course, I was a lot younger then), but in the back of my head I always remembered that.
May 2000 came and went and we're still here.
I will not be watching tonight.
A world without Lestat is akin to the apocalypse

Another reason to be fearful:

I am going to watch this tonight as I am a fan of 20/20. If this was the last day that the earth was in existence , I would make sure I would me doing something meaningful..........such as hanging out on this board.

jimnysf: That to me is far more frightening than apocalyptic theory.
No WIlliam Hung would be a sign the end is near

Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd. Do you need any more proof that the end of the world is nigh?

It's starting.
And to respond to above. It's not about fear mongering or living in terror. It's about understanding and respecting the fragility of life and society. To live in fear of the apocalypse is completely pointless, but to respect the relative imminence (though it may not be in our generation, or even our children and grandchildren, the relative imminence when compared to the history of the earth certainly exists) is powerful and, for some, life altering.
I can't watch this stuff, because I freak out. I'm just going to save myself the worrying and pass on it.
OK -- but if it's not going happen in even the next 100, 1000 or 10,0000 years, who cares? Pure and simple, it's a ratings grabber to get people to watch the show - there's no REAL news value to this. And really, if an asteroid hits us, there's not a whole hell of a lot we can do about it anyway!
Let's have some fun with the end of the world. Out of the eight possible scenarios presented, choose the way you'd want to go if you HAD to pick one. So far, I'll pass on a Gamma Ray Burst. I've never been much of a sun worshipper.
Hm, I think that stuff is really interesting. And I would watch if I didn't have to watch the History Channel for 2 hours tonight for school. Blah.
And about Johnny Depp, I couldn't agree more.
I'm not watching the show, but the synopsis in TV GUIDE says something about AI running amok. As a Battlestar Galactica fan, I can say that would really suck...

The black hole sounds interesting. At least there is a little warning so I can get wild and crazy beforehand.
I'm having a mild love affair with the black physicist. Science is like a major turn on for me, but he's kinda witty too.
I wonder if he's up for a torrid affair.

Turn off "20/20". It really isn't good for you.
Colleen... maybe it's just the term "Black Hole" that's making you horny.

SH*T, is my computer going to kill me while I sleep tonight?

.."is my computer going to kill me while I sleep tonight"
I doubt it but I am pretty sure that during the last segment, "20/20" will broadcast some kind of signal that will turn the minds of all their viewers into mush.
And this preacher is an expert because...?
Nice to see Elizabeth Vargas is taking a break from smearing murder victims in an effort to redeem their killers' image, however.

Okay, the supervolcano was intense.
