I went to see 27 Dresses today with a friend and her cousin and I throughly enjoyed it. Katherine Heigl is quite the comedienne, which is well known to those who have seen Knocked Up, and she did wonders with a cliched premise and predictable plot, but her performance alongside the charming and goregous James Marsden made the film for me, their chemistry was wonderful and they made the predictablity and cliched premise work.
Also fantastic was Judy Greer, she is a wonderful actress, I remember her playing Fern in Jawbreaker and loving her, she NEEDS to get praise for her work in all these different movies that she's been in as the funny-best friend/enemy character.
And also fun was Ed Burns, looking sexy as Heigl's boss who she is in love with, but who catches Heigl's character's bitchy sister.
The 27 dresses, are quite hysterically ugly, they have so many and the sequence in which she puts them all on is quite funny, especially the flashbacks to all the different weddings.
Overall, I loved the film, was it perfect, no. Was it original, no. But, it was entertaining, and fun and fluffy, and just what you want from a romantic comedy.
I can't wait!
Thanks for the good review.
Your welcome, nitsua!
I used to love KH, but you can't do ANYthing without seeing her. I am happy for her success, but I think she is dangerously close to overexposure. The movie doesn't seem like my style anyway. I am sure I will catch it on DVD. I didn't hate Knocked Up as much as I thought I would. Apparently, Heigl did. She thought it was incredibly sexist. Of course, she didn't say that until long after the DVD was released.
Thanks for the review, Clumsy. I wanted to see this movie - specifically for Marsden - but I had read some tepid reviews in the paper. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope I will too.
SNLMedia: I never listen to critics much anymore, I love many movies they hate and they judge romantic comedies and teen films much to harsh for my taste. I enjoyed it very much.
James Marsden. :le sigh: ♥
Agreed on Marsden, Clumsy.
I love that he's all of a sudden in a ton of movies.
SNLMedia, I know! I loved him in Enchanted and of course, Hairspray. I remember his early days when he was in Disturbing Behavior with Katie Holmes.
It seems like Hairspray started it all, but I'm not sure which movies were in production at which times, so who knows.
I need to catch up on his older movies. Hell, I need to catch up on movies, period. Me want Netflix!
I enjoyed this movie much more than I had expected. I mean, I knew I would be entertained, but I didn't realize that I would love it so much!
No matter how predictable the plot was, it was hilarious and kept my attention the entire time.
Plus, every time Marsden was on the screen, I actually swooned.
xoxRogue: I agree completely! I love it, despite all it's flaws and the writing was actually very funny like her line in my signature and Judy Greer's lines.
I'm gonna so buy this on DVD
Oh and I swooned when he came on screen too. I wanted a shirtless scene, COME ON, if you get wet, take off the damn shirt. You teased us in those tight outfits in Hairspray and Enchanted, I wanted pay dirt, and I didnt get it.

If you like Marsden, find HEIGHTS (with Glenn Close.) A decent movie, and he's very good.
And he's only in boxers for the opening scene
The poster's one of my favorites, but I hate how they've got THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA written across her chest.
But! it's the first time a screenwriters gotten so much attention. I can't remember the girl's name, but she completely revamped the original PRADA script into the great movie. I read one of the first drafts and it was so weird.
This was the first image that popped up on Google when I searched for James:

Edit: I just posted the same picture as nitsua above!
So instead I'll just say that I saw the movie the other day, and I very much agree with Clumsy's review. It was a fluffy, predictable movie, but any fan of James Marsden should not delay in rushing out to see it!

:SQUEELS like a twelve year old girl at a Hannah Montana concert: So sexy, and yet so straight.. damn it!
Get outta my head, Jilani!
I don't know when that photo was taken, but it looks like he may more developed than that now.
We need an updated picture, James! Get with the program!

Agreed!
Hee, xoxRogue, your avatar is pointing at the screen and swooning. And not just straight, ClumsyDude, but married. That'll be a dammit from the ladies. Updated On: 1/27/08 at 10:31 AM
I'm being dragged to this today.
Love the cast, not so excited about this movie, although your good reviews have given me some hope.
HAIRSPRAY did not "start it all" for Marsdem, if anything he got the most exposure from doing the X-MEN films in which he was great. He also proved he was more than an action movie star with HEIGHTS, he was wonderful in that film!
Anyways, loved him in ENCHANTED too, he is a great comedian as well as a terrific dramatic actor AND he can do action films. Not to mention one of the hottest actors working at the time.
I love Katherine Heigl, I think she is fabulous, it isn't her fault that the media has decided to target her as the new "it" girl in Hollywood (I particularly don't get the sudden award love when her best storyline in GREY'S ANATOMY during season 2 was snubbed by the awards).
I think Marsden, Heigl, and Isla Fisher are the new king and queens of romantic comedy.
