I went to Jacks 99 cents store (MY FAVORITE STORE) and things are now 1.29. The economy is terrible and 99 cents stores are charging more.
It is expensive to survive in NYC. I have been surviving on Jacks for many years. (Theatre just does not pay!)
Anyone else shop there? It is still the best deal in town.
(Where else in NYC can you get a scarf, socks, gummy candy, vitamins, shampoo, cheese all in one place!]

A buck twenty-nine is still pretty good for discount salmon.
And I'm sure you'll find theatre pays better when you move up from featured player parts to romantic leads.
Sadly they had no salmon today. I did find shrimp though.

Yum! Past freshness date shrimps is so good! Better than past date clams.

I'm pretty sure this is a Mr. Roxy title.
Nope they do not expire for a week.

Roxy would blame this on Obama's executive order list.

My gramma used to say "Bargain fish ain't no bargain."
When we were in the Bay area by San Francisco this summer I noticed the 1.29 stores...Great things

I live in the San Fran Bay Area and although we have some Dollar Stores they are fairly small although packed with wonderful things. I was amazed to see once on HGTV's Design Star a huge dollar store where they were shopping for one of the design challenges. This place seemed as large as Costco. Do you have large Dollar Stores on the East Coast?
Big or small I love them. One great thing about being on a strict budget is that shopping can be like a treasure hunt. That's what I feel like when I shop at these stores.
As large as Costco? No. They are not that large. In fact nothing in this city is that large. Real Estate is way too expensive, sadly.
I love Dollar stores. And Musto showed me the way.
The dollar store we have here is called the Dollar Tree. Stuff there is still a dollar.
I love that place!

The dollar stores in Connecticut SCARE ME. They are ghetto as all hell. I refuse to set foot in one unless I should happen to find myself needing a Chia Pet or something.
So really, you can imagine how often that happens. lol
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
I had a dinner party last year and bought some really heavy duty BIG wine glasses at the Dollar Store. 10 glasses for 10 bucks!
To PRS
I am sorry to disappoint you & have someone else come up with this thread. Jacks is great & is still a bargain @ $1.29 . The store next to it, Webers, has no need to be there. The stuff there is beyond crap.

That's okay, Mr Roxy. I forgive you.

so if it's not 99 cents why do they have it... their advertisements say NOTHING over 99 cents... so if it's 1.29 they should just not sell it!
and i love dollar tree! that one cent makes ALL the difference! hahaaa

We have many dollar stores in the Hartford area. One can buy just about anything there. I do have one rule of thumb about shopping in these stores: NEVER BUY CONDOMS THERE!!

I love dollar stores- Dollar Tree or Deals are great. I do get terrified by some of the foodstuffs there. "Filet Mignon" for a dollar is probably not worth it.
