Endora, Enchantra and Hagatha
A Three Sisters that woulda redefined "Chekhovian"...forever.

Posted: 11/15/10 at 10:33pmThe Shakespeare/Chekhov mashup would have to be a Jerry Herman musical version.

Couldnt we include Clara and Esmerelda?
Or are they sisters in law?

Chekhov's Girls? Lansbury, Channing, and Peters?

Posted: 11/16/10 at 1:11pmI always wondered about Endora's family. Three domineering sisters, two milquetoast, rather bumbling gals and then Arthur- he must be the youngest? And I think Endora was the only one who ever married. There truly could be an interesting Tennessee Williams play written about that clan.

I played Tuzenbach in the (ugh) Mamet translation. My favorite part was leaving the stage for the duel. I also liked pretending to be asleep after the fire, but the OCD part of me always wondered if I remembered to zip my fly after the costume change. Luckily, I had a terrific Irina. One of my favorite actresses I've ever worked with. She made the whole thing bearable.

Enchantra was played by Estelle Winwood, who was well into her 80s when she did "Bewitched." She worked into almost up until her death, playing Mrs. Higgins in Rex Harrison's final tour of MY FAIR LADY in 1983 at age 100, and died in 1984 at 101.
ETA: She was also one of the little old ladies in the original film "The Producers."
