I swear on my moms grave I saw a black Galinda in the Wicked in Chicago. It was pretty riddiculous! Then in the fanile the white Glinda showed up. Was anybody at th 5/7/06 performance to witness it?
......... Why in the world does it matter what race Glinda is?
In the words of Lisa Lampanelli, "You racist bitch, get out!"

I mean it doesn't but I think it's kinda funny. You see the Broadway,Touring,Movie and they are all white. I just was wondering, thats all.
What interests me is that for the finale they switched Glindas?????

Dioni Michelle Collins is her name. When she came out at the stage door she said that that is her last time playing that role. She had to cover for Stacie because Stacie had a dental appointment and she has no understudy!

This is the problem with Broadway, that almost all roles are color cast. Anyone from any race should be able to play any part. Thus, we should be seeing African American Glindas and Asian American Phantoms. But instead, everything is just white. Sad world we are in.

Isn't Wicked supposed to be all about how race doesn't matter?
Anyone from any race should be able to play any part.
Yeah, I can't wait to see an Asian Coalhouse. Perhaps in the same production with a white Sarah. Oh, and we can't forget an all-white Show Boat!
fanile?

And, which "white" actor played Glinda in the movie??
Where are the mods???
I don't remember a Wicked movie...I wonder why.
I think it'd be amazing to have a black Glinda.
But not all roles can be colorblind. I'm not sure that a black Penny Pingleton or Tracy Turnblad would work well.
I'm not racist, but I tend to cringe when I think of a blonde-bomb shell African American Glinda. There are references to her being blonde and unless they lost the references...well, THEN I wouldn't mind a black Glinda .

I guess Chad never saw the Lincoln Center revival of Carousel, or the most recent revivals of Kiss Me Kate and Man of La Mancha, or Kismet at Encores or heard about the upcoming Roundabout production of "110 in the Shade."
I wonder when they going to announce the revival of Porgy and Bess with Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Luker?
Repeat after me...
Brown (black)(red)(blue) hair with a gentle curl...
Now, that wasn't so hard.
"Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe."
"Blonde!"
Try replacing that.
Some roles, because of the historical and/or cultural context of the story (Ragtime or Showboat, as alluded to by Lizzie, for example) simply are not appropriate for "color-blind" casting.
However, I think tend to think Wicked, a FANTASY, lends itself completely to color-blind casting. I can't imagine race mattering for any role in Wicked (The FANTASY) at all.
