A Conundrum Of "Sister, Sister"-esque Proportions

What do you do in this situation:

You and your best friend try out for play.

Your friend is cast. You are not.

You are happy for friend but secretely jealous and upset.

re: A Conundrum Of 'Sister, Sister'-esque Proportions

Step 1: Tell your friend that you know it isn't there fault but ask them not to rub it in.
Step 2: Vent a little but don't say anything bad about your friend, it's not their fault.
Step 3: Find something to do instead of the play. Whether it be another play or what have you.
Step 4: Just get over it.
Am I cut out to spend my time this way?

Deal with it and audition for something else.

What are you supposed to do? I mean, what are you looking for? It's natural to feel jealous, and probably even to feel jealousy and happiness for this person at the same time, because this person is your friend. But you can't DO anything about it -- I mean, you could take it out on your friend, but common sense says that would be kind of dumb.

You deal with it.

When I'm in a situation like this, I ask myself, "What would General Motors do?" Then I do the opposite.
"Wilkins, after all these years, are you trying to be funny?"

spend s much time as you can lording it over them, talking about the play and how much fun you are having, what a great experience it is, and then look real concerned and ask, "are you ok?"

After the play is performed, be sure to tell him how much it sucked and how glad you are that you weren't up there in that awful production embarassing yourself. And that his costume made him look fat.

Obviously you sabotage your friend at every turn.
Run lines and keep changing them
Talk about how much fun you're having hanging with his/her bf/gf while they are at rehearsal
Always mention how this "director" doesn't seem to know what he is doing when your friend tells you how it's going.

You know, basic stuff like that
....but the world goes 'round
