Has anyone purchased the DVD yet? I am a big Colin fan but I was a little disappointed in the movie. I remember thinking, "Is that all?"

RobbO,
Did you read the book? Just curious as to how true the adaptation was. I knew nothing about the story and enjoyed the movie. It was definitely different, but I was really taken in by Colin's performance.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 8:49pmI enjoyed Colin's performance but the story itself was lacking -just kind of rambling. I thought about buying the book but I have not had a chance to read it yet. I typically go into a movie without knowing anything about it - no reviews, etc. Then, once I see the film, I try to read everything I can get my hands on about it.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 8:52pmI did find the beginning disturbing though. The friend I went to the movie with did not like it at all. I will admit this is not the type of movie I usually like, but what made it for me were the performances.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 10:41pmI was disappointed that the full frontal shot of Colin that they promised to have on the deleted scenes section of the DVD since it was cut from the theatrical release was missing. I turned right around and returned the damn thing. 'complete waste of my time... when I told the guy why I wanted to return it, he looked at me funny and said, "I'll just put manufacturers defect.", and then he gave me my money back. Posted: 11/12/04 at 11:00pmThe novel is one of the most amazing things I've ever read. I liked the movie. Colin Farrell was good, but Sissy Spacek deserves an Oscar nomination (even though it will never happen...)

They didn't promise to have Colin Farrel's full frontal nude scene on the DVD.
In fact, they reported back when the scene was first cut that it would NOT appear anywhere, especially on the DVD.

I loved Michael Cunningham's first novel and went into the movie expecting to not like it much, it had received mixed reviews. I found myself loving the adaptation, penned by Cunningham himself.
It moved me more than Garden State, which got such great reviews, but it may just be that I could related to sexually ambiguous people coming of age in the early days of AIDS, as I did, more than the ennui of Garden State.

I haven't even seen this movie yet - I went tonight but the Blockbuster on 51st was sold out. Virgin, for some reason, doesn't have it out yet, so I didn't get it.
I absolutely adore Garden State, and Cunningham's other book, THE HOURS...mmmm!

Posted: 11/13/04 at 12:47amI liked that Colin's character was determined to actually live love wherever he found it. I liked that characters had conflicted desires and emotions. I like that not all the story lines had the happy endings or were even tied off the way we're used to in movies. I thought the cinematography was beautiful.

so now supposedly we get to see him in Alexander??? Is this just gonna be a running gag for every new film he does "Oh, you get to see his dick, never mind we cut it." (cinematically anyway...
) lame...
Anyway, Colin Farrell has, himself, said in numerous interviews that he's not that hung. Perhaps he's above average but it's certainly nothing to edit from a film because might intimidate others.
and on a side note: being left to the imagination is NEVER sexier!!! are you crazy??? I'd much rather get to see the goods... it's not about sexy it's about pure hard-core animalistic lust. nothing more. nothing less.
thank you.

A friend of mine saw a test screening of the movie with the infamous Cock Shot still in it and said he was hung decently enough, but he was hardly the John Holmes they were making him out to be. It was all obviously a huge publicity stunt for the movie.
It finally opened in the UK last week and I went in with apprehensions. I adored the book so much that I wasn't sure I would want to see it on screen. Well, I really liked it. The performances were all top notch and the adaptation was fine too, although it was greatly compressed and streamlined and had eliminated a fairly key character. I REALLY felt for Bobby, that everyone he loved eventually left him. The end, with him watching the AIDS stricken Johnathan walk into the house was very moving.
