A good murder mystery play?

A good murder mystery play?

Hi,

I posted this here as I didn't think it directly applied to the main board. Can anyone recommend a good murder mystery play, preferably with a small cast (under 10 people)? I know of a few, but I'd like to see if there are some I've not considered. Thanks very much.

PS) There isn't a "Clue" play, is there? There is a musical, but I have seen theatre websites online mentioning "Clue the Play" and I wonder if they're just using the movie.

The Mousetrap? Kind of obvious, though. I'll think of some and get back to you.

Is Dial M for Murder considered a murder-mystery? I mean there's not much mystery, but it's a good play....

Um, The Musical Comedy Murders of the 1940s, maybe? I saw that in high school. It's more comedy than mystery, though.

There is a volume of plays by Agatha Christie. One of her best is "Witness for the Prosecution." Am surprised it is not revived.

How about the musical, "Something's Afoot"?

It's a fun show with one set (I can't remember the cast size) and it's basically Agitha Christie's "10 Little Indians" with musical numbers. The characters all get killed off in very off-beat and funny ways.

Murders in the Heir is cute. And the audience gets to vote on who they think is the killer.

kjklo beat me to it! I was going to say Sleuth too. Great show. murder, mystery and the cast is like 2 people. well, i know the movie is, and I remember reading the show and I think there are lines by 2 or 3 policemen.

but it is a great show. if you can, rent the move. a young Michael Caine. he is awesome!

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

Are you looking for a murder mystery comedy or something serious? Does it need to be a straight play or can it be a musical? Do you want it to involve audience participation? There are many different kinds of murder mysteries. I used to do a murder mystery every year as a fund-raiser when I taught HS theatre. We did shows that involved the audience in a question and answer session so that the actors could have some improv experience (and so the audience members who correctly picked the killer could win prizes!).

there is always The Mystery of Edwin Drood if you are looking for a musical.

Does The Chalk Garden count as a murder mystery?
