And Adele's 21 is the 5th best selling album of all time in the UK. For a little perspective.

I love both ABBA and Adele, but neither have quite the ooomph of Jim Coyler's "Merry Christmas."

"the album sold 1,009 copies last week"
What was so special about last week that 1,009 got off their kiesters and felt they needed this album? This album is 20 years old, were 1,009 prisoners let out of jail in the UK?
You really can't compare, Namo. How many decades has Abba's album been on sale, and how many years or months, has Adele's.

I worked in the record business for a long time. There are certain acts that seem to attract nuts. Hanson for one, or A Ha for another. Don't you dare call either of those accomplished, enduring acts "One hit wonders" around one of their fans or they will demolish you.
But ABBA is in a class by itself. Biggest, scariest, weirdest fan base of them all. I don't know if crazy people just really love ABBA or if loving ABBA makes you crazy but however it happened, here we are.
wow Joe, by your description, there must be tens of millions of nuts out there, myself being one of them. Love ABBA!

In a related story, there were 1,009 fiftysomething women in the UK with birthdays last week.
My first week in Sweden, we saw an a cappella group perform and the first song was Dancing Queen. I got so damn excited I couldn't stop smiling. It felt very Swedish. They are a big source of pride here.
I love ABBA.
I hate Mamma Mia the musical.
But I love ABBA.
What Taz said.
I also like ABBA.

Sort of like the Joni Mitchell Christmas present scene in Love Actually?
Cause I would think that 1,009 fifysomething women who had birthdays would have bought the album 20 years ago like all the rest of us did.
All I can think is that there were 1,009 people who hadn't had the chance to buy an ABBA cd in the last 20 years.

The biggest selling albums of all-time UK Top 10 now stands as follows:
1. Queen - 'Greatest Hits'
2. The Beatles - 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'
3. Abba - 'Gold'
4. Oasis - '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'
5. Michael Jackson - 'Thriller'
6. Dire Straits - 'Brothers In Arms'
7. Adele - '21'
8. Pink Floyd - 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'
9. Michael Jackson - 'Bad'
10. Queen - 'Greatest Hits II'
thought some of you may enjoy the list.
I enjoy this list, which is far superior to the US list.

Catalog albums sell week after week- Sgt. Pepper, Elton John's Greatest Hits, Abba Gold, etc. You think "Surely everyone who WANTS Best of the Eagles has it by now," but no...
And labels still dump a cardboard bin full of CDs near the WalMart Checkout from time to time. Putting that double-disc best of Willie Nelson on sale for $7.99 can move mountains of them.
Where's MDNA on that list?

oh Tazber.
If this was the Italy charts, it would be a different story.
MDNA is still in the top 10 after 8 weeks there.

Love ABBA.
Like Mamma Mia...with Louise Pitre or Carolee Carmello anyway. it's one of those shows that succeeds or fails due to casting and maintaining the energy level. Saw a touring cast that completely killed it...in the wrong way.
BTW, Abba Gold is certified sextuple platinum (6 million) in the US. That only represents copies shipped; actual sales are more in the 4 million range.
