Erik, I thought about that, but I couldn't remember if she was essentially blackballed like he seems to be. I remember thinking that THAT brouhaha was also much ado about nothing as well.

The Dixie Chicks?
From what I remember, she pretty much was blackballed. This country can be just as misogynistic as it is homophobic.

Hmmm, interesting thought. I hadn't considered them, because I was thinking about this more in terms of sexual expression (which I admit is a leap because there really wasn't much sexual about the Janet Jackson thing, just that scary thing on her boob and all the photos with her looking weird and shamed in the moment).
Not quite related, but it's fascinating how much vitriol the Dixie Chicks engendered for their completely benign comment about the sitting president, when you consider what gets said about our current president.
Pink Rubbed Man's Face into Her Crotch in 2004 on Billboard
i think that someone needs to get to the bottom of pink's crotch, and by god i'm just the man for the job!

Yup.
ABC is being absolutely ridiculous. But, I suspect (hope) it will only help Lambert.

I think the media is being used to help keep the gay issue at a boil (as I posted in the NY Senate thread.)
The reaction to Natalie's comment STILL baffles me. The Dixie Chicks just ended right there. I honestly don't think it helped that their next release was, "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice." That just added a final nail to a coffin.

The Dixie Chicks scenario is an interesting example for those who don't think boycotting works.
That album sold very well and they swept the Grammys. However, I agree that they may have a hard time continuing as Country artists.
I think the difference is in numbers and the people who took offense to it. You had HUGE radio stations boycotting the Chicks and encouraging people to do the same. Nashville just stopped playing them. They hosted CD destroying parties. I think many blindly followed without even thinking for themselves. The country music fan base is a weird thing. They act as a whole for the most part. They feel like it represents a regional way of life that includes Jesus, America and canned beer. A greasy idiot like Toby Keith can stand up and sing, "We'll put a boot in their ass. It's the American way" and country music fans will just eat it up. He'll be praised and adored. Can you imagine if someone sang a song about putting a boot in someone's ass in a pop song? It would never make the radio.

Imagine that.
That Toby Keith song is so dumb.
I'm a huge country fan, and I have never gotten over what country radio did to absolutely destroy the Chicks. Many of my friends and family called our local radio stations - after the dust had supposedly settled and requested that they return the Chicks to their rotations and we were completely shut down, just flat out told "no."

Boycotts of a specific group by masses of jingoistic lemmings work.
Speaking of the Dixie Chicks, what is up with Adam's album cover? Even if it is supposed to be some sort of 80s spoof (and why, if the album's contents is not satirical?), it is still HIDEOUS.

He looks kinda like Robin Tunney.
It's a pretty bad cover.
I love that it looks like a 90s Lisa Frank poster.
Grrrrrrrrrr, I hate that cover!

haha awww I've kind of come to love the cover just because it's so silly :P Plus he really DOES look gorgeous on it. Just the facial expression itself draws you in.
Plus, it really DOES stand out in stores and stuff!
But yeah, whateva, it's silly but it's just a cover :)
Anyway, back on this whole ABC debacle subject:
https://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/12/even-though-lambert-was-received-well-last-week-for-his-performances-on-the-early-show-and-the-ellen-degeneres-show-abc-has-o.html
"The issue is not so much about homosexuality, although I believe the preponderance of Americans find public hyper-sexualized acts of homosexuality particularly off-putting," Matt Barber said. "But the issue was more of indecency and what is decency. And frankly the issue is one of law. We believe this performance met the threshold for violation of federal law and violation of FCC regulations. And the Supreme Court has held time and again that thereâ??s not a First Amendment right to engage in public indecency as evidenced by the outcry and complaints that poured into ABC. We believe that this violated contemporary community standards in terms of what is and what isnâ??t decent."
I swear that whole thing just makes me want to send those friggin people the link to the Pink performance and go "so by your standards what Pink did was indecent and inappropriate too? Cause they're the EXACT SAME THING" UG.
But whatever, all they're doing is continuing to prove all Adam's well-articulated and intelligent points, and further exposing themselves as the huge homophobic arses that they are. So really they're doing Adam a favor
Plus he really DOES look gorgeous on it. Just the facial expression itself draws you in.
Really? I find it kind of repellent. And it looks like he has a headache.
Yeah, I don't think it's a good picture of him either.
