ABC Receives 1,500 Complaints About Adam Lambert Kissing a Man

Lambert is already trying to be the next Madonna/Bowie/Mercury and I personally think he is trying too hard out of the gate. I hope his talent doesn't get overshadowed by this nonsense.
I am sure him and Gaga will be competing for shock value from this point on. Game on, ladies!

I was going to say 1,500 isn't that much considering the millions of people who probably watched.

I thought he was great. If a male performer who was straight did the same thing with a female singer there would be no problem at all. Double standards. One set of rules for gays and another set of rules for straight people.

I don't think ABC is concerned. I just want Lambert to focus on the talent. I want him to be authentic and edgy, but with a voice like that he doesn't necessarily need gimmicks.

At this point, I'm all for ANYTHING that continues to spark the debate.
According to the FBI, gay-related hate crimes have increased 11%. I'm sick of it, and willing to let ANYTHING press the button - even if I don't personally resonate with or even understand it.

Ya don't think the simulated oral sex or flipping the bird might have caused just a few of those complaints?

I won't be buying his or Gaga's music but performance wise, if his performances continue to be this bad, Gaga has it all over him. She's way out there but she does it more artistically than what Lambert did last night. She doesn't seem to go for that kind of shock value.

Apparently the simulated oral sex was okay because he did it with a FEMALE dancer.

I think it was all of it together - but I do think that certain people would FLIP OUT at the sight of men kissing.
edit - and I wouldn't even know who these people were if it wasn't for BWW

I thought Lady Gaga was aiming for sexuality with the costumes in her act, and her own crotchy get up. Not as overt as Adam's act, of course.

This too, will pass.
Not a fan. He IS trying too hard. Too much sparkle and glitter. it is new though, to have a guy doing it up like this. We're so used to Madonna and Britney having these big productions.
Whatever happened to the guy who won AI?

Pal, I think that was a male dancer he did it with and then briefly with a female dancer. I tried to watch it again but YouTube took it down per Dick Clark's company.
I really had no problem with the "content" in his performance. I just don't think it was done well. It was a bit sloppy. It was almost like he was so excited and maybe nervous that it just cam off as unpolished. And his vocals were not that great.

If that song from 2012 is nominated for an Oscar, he could wipe all of this away by nailing that song the awards show.
But he needs to just stand there! Fully clothed.

I think Adam is very talented, but that performance was trying to hard to be shocking. It could have worked, but it was as others said, sloppy.
The whole song is...how to put this tamely...sexual.

I call BS on Lambert's cries of "double standard." He blatantly went out to shock and to some of the audience, it served its purpose.
However, what Madonna, Britney, Christina and even Lady Gaga have that Adam doesn't is a track record. Before the infamous MTV kiss, Madonna has spent 20 years in the public eye and Britney and Christina had four. All has several hits and had begun testing limits. Even Lady Gaga has a year's full of hits behind her. Adam Lambert is completely untested as a recording artist and to be this arrogant and obnoxious right out of the gate, when a lot of people are still forming opinions of his music, much less him, was just plain stupid.
After a couple of hit singles and a solid selling album or two, I wouldn't care if he had actual sex on stage...but at this stage, no.

I get your point, jim, but I don't agree for one second that if he had the track record of any of those people, this would be different. People would still be up in arms over two dudes doing anything in a performance.

He obviously wanted to shock, he would not have performed a song with such a blatantly sexual message if he didn't. Still, it is a bit of a double standard.

"I want him to be authentic and edgy, but with a voice like that he doesn't necessarily need gimmicks."
Adam Lambert is in a completely different galaxy from the possibility of being authentic . He is part of a juggernaut machine of the entertainment industrial complex. All the noise to the contrary, he probably has very little control over the music he's recorded or the look or the "controversies." American Idol and authentic, American Idol and edgy, those are all mutually exclusive terms.
There are a LOT of fascinating contemporary recording artists on independent labels creating things with genuine heart. Please, people, leave the prefab behind,
