Folks,
I've been pondering this one over for the past few days...
(The SNL Thread just brought it a little more into focus)
1) When do you feel a Board Member is abusing you on a personal level?
and
2) How do you handle it?
And for ONCE, I'm keeping my Jaws WIRED SHUT and not be the first one to answer my own question!
I Thank You in Advance For Sharing,
M.E.
The last time I felt threatened personally it was by a Scary Spice fanatic and when I tried to ask for help I got crucified. So, I try to handle my own problems with sarcastic quips and the knowledge that I'm better than them in every way.
no one has ever come out and said,
"Good Caroline-Q-or-Tboo you are a dirty bastard. But i know it's been implied. i just try to forget it and move on. Because , it's just a message board.
hmm that eric or erica person, turns out I met her over on another board and she has a few "problems" with me from this other board and decided to take it here..it was weird
i wasnt bothered much though because i could care less what this person had to say because A. I've never met them face-to-face therefore will never see them outside this board and B. this person is rather stupid
Good Caroline-Q-Taboo you are a bastard, and that's not implying
jk
If it's a one-time random flaming incident (like what occasionally happens on ff.net) I laugh at it. If it gets worse than that, I usually end up snapping back. I've never had it get bad enough that I had to get help.
oooh are we sharing ff.net flames!? one person said:
I have 6 words for you:
NEVER WRITE ANOTHER STORY AGAIN
no, i'm not kidding. she said 6 words!
::snort::
See...Marriage would occasionally get some really random person who would be like
"You suck. Stop writing."
And I'd just laugh cuz I had close to 400 good reviews. Which just made them look like an idiot.
One that did really bother me though was a person who kept accusing me of stealing material from another author, who happened to be one of my best online friends.
Hey,
What's this ff.net we're all talking about?
Fanfiction.net
It's a place for people to post their stories. It's not really a message board, but readers can submit reviews to the authors, and some people just randomly send flames. It can be really upsetting at first, but most of the time it's just idiots being ridiculous.
I know...that doesn't really help you. I'm sorry. It's just the only experience I've ever really had with online abuse.
fanfiction.net
a little shilling, check out my SoR/BillyElliot story: Elgies
my stories
Some people have definitely accused me of things I have not done and some have said that I was a loony(among other things)
I strive to let the truth be known (i.e.: "I did not do what *insert name* said I did) or I just let it fly.

FF.net is filled with idiots, as general-access sites tend to be.
Anyway, I've only gotten into horrible fights here a few times, and it was usually over politics. I tend to ignore stupid people when I can.
politics always start fights. So does RodneyK... not that i'm blaming anyone or anything, never
Thanks for the tip on ff.net, guys.
I'm TREASURING this review:
"I HATED THIS! YOU SUCK!"
Wow, it makes BWW (even at its worst) look like Sunnybrook Farm...

M_E, I just looked at the SNL thread, and I would keep responding exactly as you are. If your basher is going to keep bashing regardless of what you say, make sure you stay polite. Canwetalk will eventually get banned without you having to do anything.
I smell a visit from RIGHTSAIDRICK coming on...
Guess What?
