Progressive people should in fact want that. Better representation of the diversity of our world leads to shifts in the normative "standards of beauty."

The world only spins forward, Dave. Expecting black people, or any people of color, to stay in their place because that's what they've always done is both unrealistic and yes, racist.

The Academy recognizes the problem in having a voting body that is mostly old, white and male. They're changing that and that's a good thing. You can't go back to the bad old days.

Diversity in the voting body is great. As long as not everyone is going to vote only for their own race. Because right now you are accusing people of doing just that, so that is by no means a solution for the real problem.

Now, you also shouldn't confuse these 2 things; yes, the majority of the population is white. So there is much more competition in white actors and a much higher amount of white actors, so a much smaller percentage of white actors that actually get hired. The amount of black people auditioning might be lower (logic, population), but the amount that get hired is much higher percentage wise. Which is a real privilege, nothing to complain about.

Now if ANY person gets a role, and knows how to conquer all the odds of this whole process, then we are going to look at awards. Awards are not about recognizing yourself whatsoever, but about a combination of talent. And an impression you made on the world with the role. I really don't think people ignore great performances at this point.

The solution lies mainly in accepting. Go for mainstream in a positive way. Make the gap disappear, gain respect and conquer the odds. Many people have done that.

Creating own worlds, awards and threatening and insulting white people is not really that.

Everybody in this thread that is saying "Ugly white people with glasses in the voting committee", "We demand higher percentages than the percentage of the population" and not seeing for example that "Grease live" has a very high representation, much higher than the population and not seeing that or liking that is quite insulting in itself. This whole mentality will not gain resepect and certainly not equality.

Everywhere on the internet. From the threats Disney received (yes, broken windows at the office) about the Princess and the frog because people demanded another job for Tiana and another name, to comments that a white girl should kill herself because she is singing "And I am telling you" in a clip on youtube. And everything in between.

My point is, that this aggressive, demanding attitude is not gaining respect nor making the race gap disappear.

Acceptance is also a big part of this.
