So you think that, for example, with Grease live, the number of black and white people auditioning were exactly the same?
That would be quite interesting.

No I do not. And you are absolutely totally one hundred percent incorrect when you assert:
There is proportional representation in everything.
There simply is not. Your hypothetical audition/hiring numbers are completely fake and bear not even a slight resemblance to reality.
Yes, clearly Keke Palmer came into a cattle call audition for Grease. There were 88 white people and she was one of the 12 black people. Booked it! Werk!
You are stupid

Did you see what he originally had posted before he went back and edited? It was way more revealing and way Jesse Helms's darkest secret.
He edited himself from a bottom to a top.

Did they exclude white people?

I know. People who behave in a submissive, insecure, less worthy way bring out the top in me.

So they gave her the role because she is black? Deliberately casting on race?
Considering the huge amount of white people auditioning that is quite disrespectful.
You tell me, who will stick up for them?

Then what do you think they invited?

Lol...so THAT'S wrong, but not the Katniss Everdeen casting?
Your hypocrisy is showing.

If the majority of actresses auditioning for Katniss were black, and they still gave the role deliberately to a white girl just because she is white you mean?
Yep, that would be just as wrong.
But if they are open about it, and only invite a certain race for a role, because they deliberately want the role of Katniss to look like a white/majority/whatever or the role of Marty to look like a black/minority or whatever reason they think works for the role, than there is nothing wrong about it.
That is if you accept all colors of course. If you don't you prefer people to be blind.

Excluding POC in a role that has nothing to do with race and not even giving POC the time of day, is indeed racist, and that is the core of the issue--when casting directors look upon roles with bias by casting white people simply because "they can relate" or deeply engrained eurocentrism and white supremacy in our society.

Furthermore, if we're talking about statistics, the majority of the world is non-white. If there were a village of 100 people, 70 would not be white, so if we're talking about "appealing to the majority/mainstream", then saying that "majority appeal" is the reason film is so white is illogical.

I heard they deliberately wanted a black Marty and a white Sandy in Grease live so basically only certain colors were considered for each role. Which is fine. I guess. Because that's what they wanted.
But be open about it and don't try to fool anyone and waste anyone's time by being hypocrite about it.

I just stumbled, on Hulu, on Dick Cavett's interview with Marlon Brando. I gather it was taped just after his refusal of the Oscar. He's remarkably eloquent on Hollywood's race problem--and he's not even talking about the non-white unemployment rate, much less the lack of recognition of the performances of people of color (which we've all see those who are racist--or maybe just plain stupid--try to make an issue of percentages and head counts). He's talking about the way minorities have always been presented onscreen, and white America's disinclination to consider its own guilt.
Worth checking out.
I never thought I would do anything to this thread other than laugh. but any number of shows come to mind and they are not considered racist. Just like Hamilton has an African American and Latino cast, it's because it was written that way. Grease is supposed to be in the 50's, therefore an almost totally white cast. Then there are August Wilson plays, Fences, The Piano Lesson, with African American casts only. Ain't Misbehavin', Purlie, Porgy and Bess, (musicals) and many more with black casts. But then there are plays and musicals where color is a major part of the storyline. Ragtime comes to mind; it must have black and white roles, Showboat, the same thing; not to mention Asian Americans in Flower Drum Song or The King And I. And I can go on, look at Bullets Over Broadway or My One And Only with totally black chorus or ensemble but also white characters to emphasize the time period. Hundreds of other show are produced with black, white, latino, or asian americans, being cast, such as A Chorus Line or Phantom Of The Opera (has even had African Americans as the Phantom, for that matter, even Cats.
The same thing goes for movies. Let's do "The Help" with white women, "Driving Miss Daisy" reversing the characters to a white chauffeur and black matriarch. Again, too many to count.
If you constantly look for "racist" casting, you will be sure to find it, but only in your own racist mind.

Steve, there's a huge gigantic difference between "racist casting" and lack of diversity.
