Dave said -"For example, 100 people audition for a project. 12 black and 88 non black. They need 30 people. The cast ends up with 6 black people and 24 non black people. That means that 50% of black people that audition is actually hired versus 27% of other races. That is what is happening all the time now.

Is it fair? No. "

Oh, so now you're switching your argument from "I don't see color, only talent." to "It isn't fair that 50% of blacks are hired."

fail.

Plus he's making up the figures, pulling them out of his butt.

they reason everything works out so well in your points, Dave, is because it's hypothetical.  Those of us in the real world, including the Motion Picture Academy, know a concerted effort needs to be undertaken in order to effect change. Which everybody but you agrees needs to happen.

That's what fascinates me: Dave's conviction that his take on this is 100 percent accurate and no one else--not older, more experienced people, not people of color, not theater and film professionals, not one single American--has anything to contribute to this conversation.

He has never once said "I see your point," or "Let me think about that," or, heaven forfend, "I may be wrong."

No. Like I said:

The only reason I am bringing this up is to give you a reality check. I am not the one complaining about it.

Is it fair? No. One could wonder what is the reason behind it. Some kind of pressure for mandatory black casting getting out of hand or black people being enormously more talented. Either way, complaining at this point in time is a little out of place. To say the least.

BeadleDeedle said: "You think casting directors "invite" actors to auditions based on racial population statistics? You're delusional and know nothing about the industry."

It's either that, or black people are ridiculously more talented. Which one do you think?

Because if you look at, for example Grease live, 20% actually is black. That is quite a high number of people auditioning that actually get hired. A privilege no other race has.

Let's get to the core of your ill minds.

You can accuse anybody of whatever you want and that goes vice versa.

But the fact is that only 12% of the population is black. And percentages are the only fair thing to look at here.

This does NOT mean that when a role is cast 8 times, 1 time it has to be black. That mindset is racist.

What is DOES mean, is that each and every time a role is cast, and let's say a 100 people come to audition, means that each person only has a 1% chance at the role. Without any race factor involved.

So even if they invite a diverse selection that mirrors society, there is still per definition an almost  90% chance the role gets to someone that is not black, because 90% of people are not black.

Now, demanding that a certain amount of roles or awards should go to black people is disgusting, to say the least. And very, very racist, to demand certain privileges for certain races.

So, without even looking at race, and just following nature and the law of probability, it is very rare that a black person gets a role (unless it matters for the story) . So how on earth is it possible that such a high percentage of roles nowadays are cast black? This is a reality check for you. I don't complain. I just like to see a little less ingratitude for such extreme privileges. Because clearly, something is making the percentages very crooked.

Of course this goes for every minority.

I don't think "mandatory" means what you think it means.  Because there ain't anything close to quotas in casting.  AND STOP MAKING UP PERCENTAGES OUT OF THIN AIR.

So the mandatory thing is not it, you think? Then it must be the extreme difference in talent...

And if 100 people auditioning is 100%, 1 person is 1%. I can't make it easier for you.

Dave, you have no idea how stats work, you are misusing several basic level words, and you don't grasp the fundamental concepts that are the foundation of your own theory.

Further, you have no idea about what race is like here in America and apparently you have little life experience.

I'm sure it's easy to go on and on when you're white, privileged, and still live with your parents.

If 100 people would audition for a role, including me, I would only have a 1% chance. I wouldn't call that a privilege.

There are 12 black and 87 other races/white people fighting for the same role.

What exactly is your problem with the logics of the law of probability? Or the fact that almost 90% of the population is not black?

And if you insist on including race in everything; What exactly do you want in this case? That black people get more chance than 1% at the role? More than others?

They need some privilege over everyone else because others had that in the past? Like recreating the problem?

I'm a casting director, have my own house, I'm not white, lived all over the world and speak 4 languages. JFYI.

Where TF do you get this?  Do you think casting is done by raffle?  You do NOT know what you are talking about.
