Okay! Yes. Another one of these threads.
My mom and I are planning a college tour trip to NYC in February and I'm looking at some for straight acting and some for musical theatre (can't decide, some only have straight anyway). My GPA is about a 3.4 (I'm only a junior though), so could anybody suggest additional schools to check out? I'm looking at:
Adelphi (for straight acting)
Pace (Can't decide which major yet)
SUNY Purchase (straight acting)
**these are not the only schools I'm looking at, just the only ones in the city.
I'm not applying to NYU because I can't afford it and my GPA isnt high enough. does anybody have any suggestions where else in/close to the city I should look? Nothing too far like Ithaca.
Also...any schools that have a musical theatre program with NO DANCE AT THE AUDITION would be great! The reason I may not do musical theatre is because I'm not a great dancer and I figure it'll hurt me getting in.
Thanks so much!!!!!!
****edit****
they can't be conservatories, I need to go to a school with academics, but I'd like a school with "conservatory training" like Purchase

Just so you know, many MT programs do a dance audition solely for placement. It often has absolutely no weight on your acceptance.
As for another NYC school, Marymount Manhattan has a great program. I believe it's a B.A. in Theater Arts and you can do a concentration in MT. But I'm not positive so you should double check.
Really? I didn't know that about dancing, thank you so much!!!
definately check out Marymount Manhattan, I wasn't planning on touring it when I went to tour colleges in New York but I'm glad I did. It is a BA program so you do take academic classes as well as your studio classes
I think I will! I'm mostly looking at BFA programs, but they have academics too, theyre "conservatory style within a university" blah. So epic amts of training while still....learning. But I've heard a lot about Marrymount, I'll definitely check it out!
Thanks so much guys =)
I go to Pace for acting and love it.
I'm looking at the same ones as you are. Also check out New Paltz and Hofstra.
