I'm about 90% sure that Katie Holmes lip-synced On My Own on Dawson's Creek. I'm quite sure I read it somewhere.

I thought SMG's singing on Once More With Feeling was sort of horrid - what about Anthony Head (I guess it's sort of known that he played Frank N Furter in London once though) or Amber Benson? And James Marsters!

Does Gwyneth Paltrow count? She released a couple of singles to promote "Duets" but she's not known for her singing. (Her rendition of 'Cruisin' was decent, I thought.)

Gwyneth Paltrow and Tracy Ullman are good ones.

Another is Zooey Deschanel (Elf, Once Upon a Mattress).

It was Katie Holmes' voice on the Creek. She has a passion for musical theater. She almost didn't get cast in the show because she didn't want to miss her opening night as Lola in her high school's production of Damn Yankees.

I just Googled "Katie Holmes singing" and apparently not only did she sing on Creek, she also recorded a rendition of "I Want You To Want Me" a while ago. I stand corrected.

Jennie Kwan from the show California Dreams was in Miss Saigon, is in the girl group "Nobody's Angel", and I think she is or was playing Princess Jasmine at Disneyland or Disneyworld.

Ava Gardner had a pretty decent voice. They dubbed her in Show Boat, but her original tracks were certainly passable.

I need to stop reading this thread because i'm getting annoyed, but Tracey Ullmann becamse famous in the U.S. through her variety show - VARIETY show. That means lots of singing and dancing. And right before that, she had a pop song that was high on the charts here. I don't think people don't know she can sing.

I remember watching her variety show, but I don't remember her singing on it, though I guess she probably did. Still, I think of her foremost as comedienne and then a singer. There's not really a need to be so picky. It's just a thread to compile singing actors. I thought it might be a fun topic.

I suppose you're right about Julia, wendy72, but she's not that bad. Natasha Lyonne was better than her in the film.

just a sidenote: I put the Will and Grace cast because they are more well-known for their acting on a TV sitcom as opposed to their Broadway theatre experience.

And I don't think that Hugh Jackman counts. He started off in the theatre, and did several musicals in Australia, then did the Oklahoma! revival in London, and now here we have a Tony award-winning Broadway star. He is a triple-threat

Okay, maybe I understand the Will and Grace thing, so maybe they dont' count and neither does Hugh Jackman...

Regarding Kristin Bell, she was in "A Little Night Music" in Los Angeles and was fantastic!

On one episode of "Veronica Mars" she sang "One Way Or Another".

Will someone please define exactly what they meant by "actors who can SING"? Because there seems to be some confusion... I didn't think that sing meant attempting to sing a song during an episode in a TV show. I don't consider them actors who can sing...

I agree with Tiff about Paltrow. I think she has a really nice voice.

Downey Jr. had a CD out also.

It's basically just whoever you think can carry a tune who's not known first and foremost as a broadway star or a singer, korenglish. It's ok to not agree with everyone, it makes things more interesting, as long as people keep their cool.

Simmons isn't great but she can carry a tune. I like her interpretation of Desiree in Night Music.

Marlo is totally awethum on the Free to Be You and Me Album. Don't Hate.

Zooey Deschanel -- I saw her and Samantha Shelton in their "Pretty Babies" act.

Not bad, they definitely had fun and it was an entertaining evening

Jennifer Garner-I know she spent at least one summer maybe 2 working as an EMC at a summer stock theatre & performed in musicals in HS. I know she had to audition to work at the equity summer stock theatre and singing was part of the audition so I guess she can sing.
