Advice Please!

hey guys. i need your help.

Lately, i've been feeling really depressed and not like myself at all. I've been listening to depressing music, crying a lot (in and out of school),putting up depressing away messages, and basically hiding from everyone. And all my parents do is scream at me constantly for no reason whenever i am home. It seems like i'm never good enough for them. I get straight A's in fully advanced classes, take singing, acting, and dance classes 5 days a week, as well as help around and clean the house. Yet, they still screaming at me for no reason.

Then, all my friends ditched me on Wednesay because they said that i didn't fit in with their group anymore. So now, once again, I have no friends.

I don't know what to do. I've been writing really depressing poems and basically crying for the past fews days. I don't see what I'm doing wrong. I work my ass off, always try to be kind to others, and yet my face gets pushed in the dirt yet again!

I've become a tad suicidal over the past few days, which is beginning to scare me. I know i need help, but i try to tell my mom and all she does is scream at me and tell me to suck it up and stop acting like i'm 2.

Can you guys help in any way please?

re: Advice Please!

Sweetie, do you have a trusted adult you could turn to? Guidance counselor, teacher, family friend, relative, clergy? I'd urge you to seek one of them out right away.

Take good care - let us know how you are...we care about you. Stick around - you have a lot to give.

re: Advice Please!

Can you think of someone else who can help? If none of the people I listed before, perhaps a parent of one of your friends. I'm concerned about you. Please let me know who you talk to. And go do this now.

*hugs back*

re: Advice Please!

Glad Rath got here before me-- excellent advice.

Depression is a tricky thing. It makes you see the simplest problems as huge and big problems as insurmountable. It's imperative to get someone you trust involved. They can often help you to see that (trite as it sounds) things aren't as bleak as it seems. Find someone: A favorite aunt or uncle? A teacher? Maybe your dance or drama coach?

As a stranger, at a distance, I can only say that if you get some help and pull through, some day (and sooner than you think) you won't even recognize these feelings as yours. I speak from experience: Things can go from bleak to beautiful seemingly overnight!

re: Advice Please!

Your parents love you, but sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees when you're so close to someone. Or, they could be going through their own things right now that you don't know about. I know it's hard to not take it all personally, but you have to remember that people's actions are more about them than you, no matter how it looks on the surface.

re: Advice Please!

I'm sure you are loved lots and lots of places, some people just don't show it the way we need them to.

And please do talk to your music teacher (if you feel comfortable doing so).

Go talk to your music teacher as soon as possible, he will get you some help and be there for you. Just hang on, as Dori says in Finding Nemo "Just keep swimming, just swimming..."

ponine---
I know exactly how you feel. Exactly. I don't have much to add except know that there are people (including us on the board) that care about you and worry about your welfare. If you ever need to talk or what not, email me or pM me any time.
Was that a fat joke?

re: Advice Please!

Ponine- I went through this exact thing a couple of years ago.

Talk to a trusted adult friend (parents don't understand and will only blame it on themselves causing more frustration at home)
Get new friends.
Listen to HAPPY music.
Lock the door to your room, stand on your bed and jump up and down while belting your favorite showtune(it helps, trust me).

re: Advice Please!

ponine.....if you are gay, and they have a gay center in your town, call them....as they may have a gay teens group.
If you are straight, they should have some sort of teen center in your area.......or call that music teacher, NOW.
I would also sit down my mother, tell her to be quiet.....and tell her
A. This is serious
B. I MUST talk to you NOW

and there are always all of us here. We've all experienced something similar at one time in life....and you will get through it.....but you don't have to get through it alone!

Realize, too, that it is so brave to ask for help. It's such a hard thing to admit that you don't feel like yourself, and it takes a lot of courage to say, "I'm unhappy and I want to change that."

My prayers are with you. Lots of hugs for you... we're all here for you.

re: Advice Please!

I agree with what's been said so far, especially that you should find an adult that you trust and talk to them. Your music teacher sounds like he might be the one. Music teachers are incredibly perceptive, intelligent people, and if you're close with him, he sounds like an excellent person to talk with.

I know how hard it can be to talk to your parents, when it feels like they're only throwing their own perspective at you. Maybe you should talk to someone else first, and then all you can do is the best you can to sit her down quietly and have a serious conversation with her.

We love you and we're here for you, sweetie.

*hugs* Trust me, things aren't as bad as they seem. You'll be okay. The end of the school year might help you- use that chance to relax and change your routine.

re: Advice Please!

I'm sorry you feel this way - I can remember a point where everything seemed desperate and bleak and grim for me too, and it really is hard to know where to turn.

The best advice I can offer is just to talk about it - maybe your music teacher is a good idea, I turned to a teacher who I can trust and has become a very good friend to me throughout the whole process. If you keep it in, internalizing everything, it is hard to find a solution. Maybe your voice teacher can offer you a different perspective on things like my teacher did for me.

I know how hard things can be, but hang in there and know that many people care about you.

re: Advice Please!

defintiely talk to your music teacher. since you said you know him so well and your guidance counselor didn't do what you had hoped/expected, the music teacher sounds like a good bet.

my other advice is, if it is suggested, really consider therapy. i know, you probably don't want to be one of *those* people, but i promise it really helps. i didn't want to be one of *those* poeple either, but then i realized that there are people who get help from professionals who aren't the crazy, certifiable ones you think they are. therapists really are there to help.

another good thing about going to your music teacher - musicians really understand emotions, i've found. i often go to my voice teacher when i'm feeling overwhelmed, and the best thing he always does is give me an aria or a song that perfectly matches what i'm feeling, and by singing it i really do feel better. it makes me feel like i'm not alone, and that i'm doing something constructive with my emotions, which actually helps me get over what i'm feeling.

we all want you to feel better, ponine, and i'm sure anyone here would be willing to talk if you need it.

i've dealt with a lot of stuff like this (personally and with friends/parents), you can always PM me or IM me (sporti2005) if you need to talk. (that's my email address too, @aol.com).

*hugs poni* I know exactly how you're feeling right now. And I agree with everything that has been said-- try to find an adult or someone else that you really trust and tell them what's been going on.

I hope everything works out for you, ponine. If you ever want or need to talk, know that I'm here for you. I really care about you and I hope that everything works out.
