Aerobic Exercise and Breathing.

I started working out again and I discovered something yesterday. I was on the treadmill and I was doing the machine's "fat burning" workout. You pick a speed and the machine raises and lowers that speed to maintain your heart beat at a 65% fat burning level. I noticed the more relaxed my breathing was, the faster I could walk and maintain my heartbeat within the fat burning margin. However, as soon as I stopped concentrating on relaxing my breathing, my heart rate would start climbing and the machine would slow down.
I guess what I'm trying to say is through proper breathing one can exercise harder or more efficiently. Maybe?

I would say breathing (though this applies to everyday life) is the most important factor in any kind of exercise or workout.

There is a great class out here in L.A. that combines cardio and karaoke for this exact reason.
This is from their website:
"Fact- 70% of weight loss comes through proper breathing. Our military uses cadences to strengthen the lungs and to build super human stamina. On a daily basis we all forget to breathe regularly due to stressful situations and or distractions."
The class is called Cardioke, look it up! :)

They only offer it in Hollywood at the moment as far as I know. But it's been a few months so maybe they've expanded.
It's led by Billy Blanks Jr. and his wife Sharon. They are very cool!

Thinking you need to be a sweaty mess who is out of breath after a workout is a common mistake. Working out in a way that keeps you focused on your breathing is much more therapeutic for a lot of people as well. I need to run until I am about to pass out to get rid of the stress in my day but that's just me
