Oh, sorry. Yes, I can relate. sometimes I forget to look on labels or ask questions in restaurants, and I'll ingest part of a seed and land in the hosptial also. It's scary, isn't it.

i have a list of resturaunts by state somewhere that say which resturaunts are careful about cross contamination and cater to the food allergy community. the only one i know off the top of my head is elaine's in ct since that's where i eat every few weeks.
i'll have to look for it... it may be on my laptop which is currently un-usable untill late next week.
if i find it i can pm it to both of you.
i have alot of food allergies but i only get a reaction if i eat them. although my allergies are not the same as regular food allergies. my allergies are called eosinophilic disorder... it's a little complicated.

Right when I was done with my winter colds, I started allergies. Then, my cold came back, and I had them both at the same time. It was horrible.

No need to apologize.
I've only had to go to the hospital once, thankfully. I'm careful to the point of being neurotic, and my parents taught me really well from the time I was a toddler. Eating out is a nightmare, though. It's frightening, but I've adapted pretty well.

Posted: 4/24/07 at 10:15pmHave you ever tried Claritin? I use it and it's pretty effective.

Posted: 4/24/07 at 10:20pmAnother vote for Claritin. I've been using it for several years. I'm not symptom free, but I'm way worse off without it!

Posted: 4/24/07 at 10:21pmI was on Claritin when I was younger. IT wasn't working very well, so I switched to Zyrtec. Maybe I'll have to try it again.

#37re: Allergies
Posted: 4/24/07 at 10:42pmEXTREMELY. I forgot to take it earlier, and if I take it now I will sleep through my midterms tomorrow.

This is exactly my experience!

Posted: 4/24/07 at 11:09pmI still sneeze an awful lot, but even if I skip it for a day, I feel infinitely more miserable. I've been on allergy shots since I was a little kid, too. They help as well, but again, don't make the symptoms disappear.

Posted: 4/24/07 at 11:18pmI've tried everything! Took the shots for 10 years-didn't help. Tried all those alternative plans too (bee pollen, etc.). Nothing worked. So-I take Claritin and it helps at least to lessen the symptoms.

Posted: 4/24/07 at 11:22pmI tried stopping the shots mid-way through my teens because I didn't think they were doing much for me, but boy, was I wrong. Shortly after I stopped, I felt so much worse than I'd felt in years, so I started them up again. I haven't tried any of the alternative stuff, although at times I'm tempted to. I'm on Singulair for asthma, and it's supposedly also helpful with seasonal allergies. I take Benadryl on really bad days, but it makes me incredibly tired. Soooo many drugs!

I hear you- sometimes I wondered whether it may be better to just sneeze than to feel "drugged" and sleepy. The answer is no, though. It's better not to sneeze yourself to death. I used to get it so bad that all I could do is go to bed and sleep away the rest of the day, and hope the next day wouldn't be as bad.
Fortunately, they invented allergy meds that don't make me sleepy-when I saw that claritin agreed with me, I started on it and I never changed since then.
